Autumn Walk in London

Coming from the Philippines a tropical country that has summer and rainy seasons, we have been looking forward to experiencing Autumn. We arrived in London during winter and didn't see the orange and yellow leaves fall from the trees. Let us share with you our experience seeing Autumn for the very first time.

Come with us today as we take an Autumn walk in London.

hyde park map.jpg

This post is a little bit late as it is already early winter here in London. Well, Autumn came a little late this year as I was told maybe it is because of climate change and winter would be a little bit longer too.

Our walk starts from the southeastern part of the map and comes from the tube station. We walked along the Serpentine Lake. Here I was breath taken by the trees covered with orange and yellow leaves. The weather is colder but there are still a lot of people enjoying this season.

Autumn intensifies the gloomy weather of London yet is it alluring. An air of melancholy seems to fill the surroundings as I walk along the park. An overpowering feeling of beauty and sadness.

6.JPG

The birds along the lake do not seem to mind the tourists that pass by. They are very welcoming and would even approach you. They got used to having people around feeding them. This is a sight that we do not have in our country. Back in the Philippines, birds would be flying away from people instead.

A restaurant across the other side of the lake is a great spot to enjoy drinks and food.

12.JPG

From this side, you could see the Serpentine Bridge. I just wanted to follow this trail and see where it leads me. No plans where to go and just discover the area as I walk along. The best part is there is no need to rush as I could spend as much time here as I want. Taking things slow and just enjoying this beautiful afternoon.

13.JPG

14.JPG

Underneath the bridge, there is a passageway and I will just continue to follow this path.

15.JPG

Kensington Palace can be seen far on the western side of this trail and maybe end the walk there. It looks far but I will get there.

16.JPG

At the end of this pathway, I have reached the Italian Gardens. A vintage water garden with a beautiful fountain. A great spot to take a break from your walk as the water garden is very beautiful. I spent a lot of time here and took a lot of photos of the vintage fountains. A very romantic place to spend some time with your loved one. Maybe grab a warm drink from the cafe across the street.

The fountain is very beautiful and moss has already grown on these statues which adds character to them. I do not know the story behind these fountains which have been here since 1860. I think we will keep coming back to this garden whenever we are near the area. The place is very calming and inspiring.

Behind the fountains is a very gorgeous view and should not be missed. I even saw an artist painting this scenery. The place must have been an inspiration to many artists here in London. I wish I knew how to paint but I could only take photos which is good enough for me.

I continued on with my walk and took a turn on the other side of the lake. A different view of the Serpentine Bridge. For bird watchers, there is a sign here that shows all the types of birds that can be seen in this lake.

30.JPG

Also in this area is the popular Peter Pan Statue. A bronze sculpture made in 1912 dedicated to J.M.Barries the author of Peter Pan. This statue is said to be near his old home. It is amazing to think that the author spent a lot of time in this park creating his great works.

Let us continue and enjoy our Autumn walk and see the beautiful orange and yellow leaves. It was originally the only thing that we wanted to see but we discovered a lot of beautiful things along the way. Sometimes no plans are the best plan.

35.JPG

36.JPG

39.JPG

There are eight paths in this central area of the park and each path will lead you to a different part of this massive park.

40.JPG

In this central part of the park where the paths diverge is Physical Energy Statue. A man on a horse covering his eyes from the sun is a symbol of ambition, seeking the unachieved. The are two other statues like this in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

41.JPG

Along the horizon, Saint Mary Abbots Church can be seen. How I would like to see the church maybe at another time as it looks very far.

42.JPG

I am nearing Kensington Palace and in front of it, a very large body of water called The Round Pond. The wind here is very strong and is very cold. It almost feels like I am near the ocean.

43.JPG

You could see how strong the winds were as waves were crashing on the pathway. Having an ocean in the middle of the park is such a strange sight to see.

Kensington Palace is an addition to the places to visit. The entrance is expensive and would cost you around £25.00 for the entrance. A price to pay for a chance to visit a palace.

49.JPG

50.JPG

In front of the palace is the statue of Queen Victoria. A lot of tourists like to have their photo taken in front of the statue. A point of interest where you could show that you have seen Kensington Palace.

51.JPG

52.JPG

We are almost at the end of our Autumn walk and this place is called the Broad Walk. A walkway from the south end to the north end of the Kensington Gardens. I think this is the best place to capture the lovely London Autumn.

53.JPG

54.JPG

55.JPG

To end this walk I sat on this bench and just spent some time watching people passing by. Sweethearts holding hands, families enjoying their vacation and I am here just enjoying my first Autumn experience. A season full of melancholy with unexplainable beauty. This season is what I expected it to be and so much more. I can finally say that this is my favorite season.

How beautiful and charming the autumnal atmosphere of London and this walk you give us. The orange color of the leaves is really out of a fairy tale. There is no autumn in my country, but I would love to experience it. Loved the photos. Thanks for sharing

Despite what everyone says about London and the UK in general for its rainy period most of the time and grumpy temperatures, I still think it's a beautiful place and your post does show that aspect very well :)

You hear that most of the time gloomy dark weather and always wet 😆. At first it felt very depressing but we have grown to love it specifically this season. There is always beauty around us, we just need to open our eyes and embrace our surroundings. Cheers!

Couldn't say it better! But you are right. This is a common feeling for those who don't usually enjoy autumn for being a rainy season as well as winter for having short days and long nights. But it's our mission to find beauty in anything and appreciate things as they are.
