Maledives - Fifty Shades of Blue (ger/eng)

Ich war bisher zwei Mal auf den Malediven und bereits mein erster Besuch hat mich verzaubert. Als ich das erste Mal auf die Malediven geflogen bin, habe ich meine große Liebe zum Ozean und seinen Meeresbewohnern entdeckt. Ich war schon immer gerne schwimmen und im Meer, aber diese Unterwasserwelt hat mich einfach in ihren Bann gezogen. So sehr, dass ich mich danach für einen Tauchschein entschieden habe und unbedingt noch ein zweites Mal auf die Malediven fliegen wollte.

Fihalhohi Island - Mein erster Besuch

"Where the sands of time stands still" - Das ist das Motto, welches einen bei einem Besuch auf Fihalhohi Island im Kaafu (Süd Male) Atoll begrüßt. Und es ist wahr. Die kleine Insel ist wirklich ein Paradies und wer Ruhe, weiße Sandstrände, einen kleinen Dschungel und ein schönes Riff erleben will, ist hier genau richtig. Fihalhohi ist eine sehr kleine Insel auf der man vollständig barfuß unterwegs sein kann. Sie gehört zu den günstigeren und einfacheren Resorts. Gerade bei dem ersten Besuch auf den Malediven macht das aber wirklich überhaupt nichts. Ich persönlich war so von der Schönheit der Insel begeistert, dass mich die einfache Gestaltung der Bungalows und das eher kleine Angebot an Restaurants und Bars überhaupt nicht gestört hat.

Von Fihalhohi aus kann man Bootsausflüge zum Tauchen und schnorcheln machen. Außerdem gibt es ein wunderschönes Hausriff an dem man täglich seine Runden ziehen und allerlei entdecken kann. Eine kleine Schildkröten Auffangstation an der Babyschildkröten herangezogen werden, war außerdem ein kleines Highlight für mich.

Absolute Herzensempfehlung und Grund für meinen Tauchschein Wunsch: Ein Schnorcheltrip mit Walhaien.

Vilamendhoo Island - Mein zweiter Besuch

Einige Jahre später ging es für mich nochmal auf die Malediven. Diesmal mit Tauchschein im Gepäck und in ein anderes Atoll. Vilamendhoo Island liegt im Ari Atoll, ist ebenfalls eine Barfußinsel und ist mit dem Wasserflugzeug erreichbar. Die Insel ist größer als Fihalhohi, um einiges luxuriöser und bietet auch mehr Aktivitäten. Neben einer wirklich netten Tauchschule gibt es auch einen Fußballplatz, einen Tennisplatz, verschiedene Wassersportaktivitäten und zwei Pools. Außerdem gibt es mehrere Restaurants und Bars und auch die Zimmer bieten mehr Annehmlichkeiten. Ich hatte hier ein Strandbungalow mit Outdoor Badezimmer und Jacuzzi, welches wirklich eine Empfehlung wert ist.

Grundsätzlich bin ich aber nicht nochmal auf die Malediven gereist, um ein schönes Zimmer zu genießen sondern um diesmal wirklich in die Unterwasserwelt einzutauchen. Auch Vilamendhoo bietet die Möglichkeit am hauseigenen Riff Tauchgänge zu machen. Mit dem Boot sind aber auch unzählige, atemberaubende Tauchspots erreichbar. Ihr habt hier die Möglichkeit mit Mantarochen, Schildkröten, Walhaien und vielen anderen Haiarten zu tauchen. Die Tauchschule berät einen hier wirklich gut, welche Tauchspots sich anbieten, um diese wunderschönen Tiere in ihrer natürlichen Umgebung zu beobachten und ihnen dabei ganz nah zu kommen.

Wichtig: Wenn ihr ähnlich wie ich noch Anfänger beim Tauchen seid, ist es empfehlenswert noch ein bisschen Taucherfahrung zu sammeln oder sogar noch erweiterte Tauchscheine wie zum Beispiel den Advanced Open Water Diver von PADI zu absolvieren. So stehen Euch zum einen deutlich mehr Tauchspots offen, zum anderen könnt ihr die Tauchgänge entspannter angehen. Wenn ihr auf den Malediven tauchen geht, werdet ihr nämlich häufig mit starken Strömungen konfrontiert, die einen als Tauchneuling schon vor eine kleine Herausforderung stellen können oder zumindest dafür sorgen, dass euch recht schnell die Luft ausgeht und der Tauchgang somit deutlich schneller zu Ende geht.

Besonders gut hat mir gefallen, dass die Tauchschule sehr viel wert darauf legt, dass sich alle Taucher ordentlich verhalten, den Tieren ihren Raum geben und sogar besondere Aktionen zum Beispiel zur Reinigung des Hausriffs anbieten. So konnte ich bei einer dieser Aktionen einen Gratis Tauchgang durchführen bei dem wir am Hausriff Plastikmüll eingesammelt haben, der für das Riff und die Fische schnell lebensbedrohlich werden kann. So tut man noch etwas gutes für die Umwelt und weiß, dass die Fische nicht wie bei manchen touristischen Angeboten gejagt oder zusammengetrieben werden, um ein "tolles Erlebnis" zu bieten.

Würde ich noch einmal auf die Malediven reisen?

Diese Frage kann ich mit einem klaren ja beantworten. Auch wenn ich schon ein paar wirklich schöne Flecken auf der Welt sehen durfte, ist das Erlebnis Malediven für mich bisher einzigartig. Bei einem erneuten Besuch würde ich meine Reise jedoch gerne mit einem Besuch in Dubai oder auf Sri Lanka verbinden, um den Flug optimal zu nutzen und etwas neues zu erkunden. Ein absoluter Traum wäre es einen Urlaub im Lux Resort im Süd Ari Atoll zu verbringen. Genau an dem Riff rund um die Insel ist einer der größten Walhai Spots, an dem diese Tiere ruhig Ihre Bahnen ziehen. Ich kann jedem nur empfehlen einmal einen Ausflug mit Walhaien zu genießen und die Ruhe zu spüren, die einen überkommt, wenn einer dieser großen Fische ganz entspannt mit einem durch den Ozean schwimmt - Egal ob als Taucher oder als Schnorchler.

I have been to the Maldives twice so far and already my first visit enchanted me. The first time I flew to the Maldives, I discovered my great love for the ocean and its marine life. I have always loved swimming and being in the ocean, but this underwater world just captivated me. So much so that I decided to get a diving license afterwards and absolutely wanted to go to the Maldives for a second time.

Fihalhohi Island - My first visit

"Where the sands of time stands still" - This is the motto that greets you when you visit Fihalhohi Island in Kaafu (South Male) Atoll. And it is true. The small island is really a paradise and if you want to experience tranquility, white sandy beaches, a small jungle and a beautiful reef, this is the place to be. Fihalhohi is a very small island on which you can go completely barefoot. It belongs to the cheaper and simpler resorts. However, especially for the first visit to the Maldives, it really doesn't matter at all. Personally, I was so thrilled by the beauty of the island that the simple design of the bungalows and the rather small offer of restaurants and bars did not bother me at all.

From Fihalhohi you can make boat trips for diving and snorkeling. There is also a beautiful house reef where you can make daily rounds and discover all sorts of things.A small turtle sanctuary where baby turtles are raised was also a small highlight for me.

Absolute heart recommendation and reason for my diving certificate wish: A snorkel trip with whale sharks.

Vilamendhoo Island - My second visit

Some years later I went again to the Maldives.This time with a diving license in my luggage and to another atoll.Vilamendhoo Island is located in the Ari Atoll, is also a barefoot island and can be reached by seaplane.The island is bigger than Fihalhohi, more luxurious and offers more activities.Besides a really nice diving school, there is also a soccer field, a tennis court, various water sports activities and two pools.There are also several restaurants and bars and the rooms offer more amenities as well.I had a beach bungalow here with outdoor bathroom and jacuzzi, which is really worth a recommendation.

Basically, I did not travel to the Maldives again to enjoy a nice room but to really dive into the underwater world this time.Vilamendhoo also offers the possibility to dive at its own reef.By boat you can also reach countless breathtaking dive spots. You have the possibility to dive with manta rays, turtles, whale sharks and many other shark species. The dive center advises you really well which dive spots are suitable to observe these beautiful animals in their natural environment and to get very close to them.

Important: If you are a beginner diver like me, it is recommended to gain some more diving experience or even to get an advanced diving certification like the Advanced Open Water Diver from PADI.This way you will have access to more dive sites and you will be able to dive in a more relaxed way.When you go diving in the Maldives, you are often confronted with strong currents, which can be a challenge for a novice diver or at least make sure that you run out of air very quickly and the dive ends much faster.

I especially liked that the diving school attaches great importance to the fact that all divers behave properly, give the animals their space and even offer special actions, for example, to clean the house reef. So I could do a free dive at one of these actions where we collected plastic waste at the house reef, which can quickly become life-threatening for the reef and the fish. So you still do something good for the environment and know that the fish are not hunted or rounded up as in some tourist offers to provide a "great experience".

Would I travel to the Maldives again?

I can answer this question with a resounding yes. Even though I've been able to see some really beautiful spots in the world, the Maldives experience is unique to me so far. However, if I were to visit again, I would love to combine my trip with a visit to Dubai or Sri Lanka to make the most of the flight and explore something new. An absolute dream would be to spend a vacation at the Lux Resort in South Ari Atoll. Exactly at the reef around the island is one of the largest whale shark spots, where these animals quietly pull your courses. I can only recommend everyone to enjoy a trip with whale sharks and to feel the peace that comes over you when one of these big fishes swims with you through the ocean - no matter if you are a diver or a snorkeler.
