St Michael's Catholic Church in Old Town Triangle, Chicago

A photo tour of Saint Michael's in Chicago.

I am not Catholic and may not understand the symbolism of everything in the photos, but I can appreciate the beauty! There were no services taking place at the time and it was a perfect opportunity to wander through taking photos without disturbing anyone.

St. Michael’s parish was founded in 1852 to accommodate a growing German immigrant population when German-born brewer Michael Diversey donated land for the building of the original wooden church to the new parish. Now shepherded by the Redemptorist Order, the present 200-foot long church was dedicated in 1869. While the 1871 Great Chicago Fire ravaged the roof and inner structure, the locally sourced red sandstone brick exterior remained standing, and was fully restored by 1873. In 1888 the bell tower was completed; at 280 feet, it was one of the tallest structures in Chicago. Today, St. Mike’s serves more than 675 families in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood with daily services and community events.

I don't know how the @builawhale blacklist works, but I would hope that it will refresh and sync with Hivewatchers. You have worked hard to get removed from the Hivewatchers list and I hope that will be taken into account. I would suggest waiting for a little more to see if it changes.

Wow, breathtaking !INDEED. It didn't seem to have been burned. It's all so perfect and new, like it was built yesterday. Awesome preservation of the history. The Christian community should be proud of their church. I don't know if the San Peter's Basilique in Vatican City is so beautiful.

Many families have a lot of history there. Weddings, funerals, baptisms. The church becomes part of family tradition and memories.

Such buildings are rare because they are old and the map is also much more interesting. There are still 200-year-old buildings in our city.

Looks more like a cathedral to me, just by its size!! It’s beautiful and has reminded me to get back into my churches project!
