Before the smoke

It has been a smokey weekend here in Wisconsin as smoke from Canadian wildfires drifts across the northern Midwest of the United States.

The smoke is originating from wildfires nearly 900 miles away in Canada.
Tthere are nearly 175 active fires in Canada, with 94 marked as out of control. Stepping outdoors it smells as if someone has a campfire burning

These photos were taken last weekend before it became hazy here.

The states most heavily impacted — Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota — have all issued air quality alerts, warning that the quality of air is unhealthy for sensitive groups, including children, anyone with respiratory issues and older people.

Thousands of people have evacuated their homes across parts of the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba,
I can't begin to imagine the devastation being caused to wildlife and forest lands.

Canada's largest fires – the Bird River fire and the Border fire – remain completely uncontained in northern Manitoba and the fires have burned about 200,000 hectares

Red Eared slider turtles are considered evasive.

The latest reports that I have seen say that the fires are intensifying, so I expect more hazy days ahead. My air purifier is getting a workout!

I haven't been watching the news and didn't realize the Canadian fires were still burning! Praying for them to stop!

Beautiful photos. Take care!

Beautiful area there. Occasionally I'll get some smaller turtles that will wander into the area here and there, but haven't seen one yet this year.

I hope that things will be sorted out soon by the Canadian Goverment, and there will be no casualties on the fire.
Stay safe Melinda, maybe keep some mask in your inventory, incase you need to go out in the haze.

It’s really tough when fires reach far places and affect the air quality.
The pictures are beautiful and show just how amazing nature is.

Well, it's sad to know that the forrest are burning. It happened already last year, I think. Probably, if it gets denser, you would have to use a mask like when covid to be outside.

Oh, poor souls. 😥I hope everything will be sorted out soon so that people can get their lives back. Being homeless isn't what one should experience.
