Milho And Patrick's Entry To Phone Photography Contest #59

Patrick adopted Milho. We thought that we were adopting him, but Milho doesn't care much for humans.

Patrick is the big shiny black boy. Milho the green tiger-striped. And apart there in the back you can see Niitan.

At the end of this post you will find the links to look back at the kittenhood of Milho and his adoptive brother Patrick from the beginning. But I'll give it to you here in a nutshell:

Milho was is was a little wild kittle who appeared in the backyard. @meveronica began leaving food out for him. But he was too afraid of people; he wouldn't come near.

We made a really strong effort to entice him to trust us, which included letting him "play" murder with my hands and feet and jump away quick while being sure not to look at him for more than a second or two.

Luckily Milho is an early morning guy and so am I. In the calm and quiet he began to trust me enough to bring back the scrunched up paper ball, so that I would throw it again.

One day we left the door open and he came inside. We closed the door and he didn't love that, but he didn't freak out.

And Milho and Patrick met face to face, not through glass. And it was instant love.

Milho followed Patrick around everywhere. And Patrick would yowl if he wasn't nearby.

While I had the intention of taking Milho on as "my" kitty, when I would be living in my own space apart from @meveronica and man...

We had to face the fact that even if we were living 1,000 miles apart, Milho would walk that and 1,000 more to return to Patrick.

Thankfully I live much closer and so I can visit them with ease.

Patrick adoptó a Milho. Pensamos que lo estábamos adoptando, pero a Milho no le importan mucho los humanos.

Milho era era un gatito un poco salvaje que apareció en el patio de casa. @meveronica empezó a dejarle comida. Pero tenía mucho miedo de la gente; no se acercaba.

Hicimos un gran esfuerzo para que confiara en nosotros, lo que incluía dejarle "jugar" asessinar con las manos y los pies y alejarse rápidamente mientras nos asegurábamos de no mirarle más de un segundo o dos.

Por suerte Milho es un chico madrugador y yo también. En la calma y tranquilidad empezó a confiar en mí lo suficiente como para traer de vuelta la bola de papel arrugada, para que yo la lanzara de nuevo.

Un día dejamos la puerta abierta y entró. Cerramos la puerta y no le encantó, pero no se asustó.

Y Milho y Patrick se conocieron cara a cara, no a través de un vidrio. Y fue amor instantáneo.

Milho seguía a Patrick a todas partes. Y Patrick aullaba si no estaba cerca.

Aunque tenía la intención de acoger a Milho como "mi" gatito, cuando viviera en mi propio espacio aparte de @meveronica y el hombre...

Tuvimos que enfrentarnos al hecho de que aunque viviéramos a 1.000 millas de distancia, Milho caminaría eso y 1.000 más para volver con Patrick.

Menos mal que vivo mucho más cerca y así puedo visitarlos con facilidad.
