Time for an upgrade… I waited way too long for this purchase!

Upgrades, upgrades… they are always much anticipated and at the end we hope they will work flawlessly and will be worth for the price that we pay.

My filter setup saw its last upgrade when I bought the high quality manual coffee grinder and it was like the perfect purchase. This really got my filter preparation on the next level.

Now I can brew this beautiful Uganda coffee in my filter and enjoy it ultimately!

But my espresso set… it didn’t experience any major improvement for more than two years… Maybe when I bought the electric grinder, or… when I bought the strange distributor tool (the strange thing with needles that breaks the bigger chunks). Since then I use the same exact tools every single day.

The tamper is the most basic plastic tamper that can be ever produced. You all know its purpose… It packs the coffee to create a thick bed which creates resistance when brewing your espresso.

The bottmless paper cup was my cheapest option to create a kind of a funnel that prevents coffee from spilling around the kitchen top when stirring it with the needle tool. If I have to be honest, it doesn’t look or work great, but still does the job.

Lastly… I want to change the portafilter. This is maybe one of the most important parts of the machine and it is where the real magic happens.

These double bottom portafilters (you will recognize them with the single tiny hole in the center of the lower) are usually used for the cheaper espresso machines and they are great for amateur and unexperienced users. They don’t require exact grinder setting and brew relatively well the most commercial pre-ground coffee. But I am a bit nerdy and I want to push my espresso machine to the limits. Now that I have the right set of grinders and everything else, it is finally time to upgrade the set.

I am now waiting for this order, but because it comes from china (maybe) it will take some time. It is a week since I placed my order and i hope that in a week or two I will receive my dream upgrade.

Normcore has the fame of an excellent after market tool producer, which delivers great looking tools that work flawlessly.

When I was placing my order I was going to buy only the portafilter and the funnel tool. I thought that I can use my plactic tamper some more time (maybe a month or two), but eventually decided to add a tamper to my purchase too! Now I don’t regret adding about 50 dollars to my purchase and I am even more impatient about receiving my upgrade set.

And hopefully everything will work easily and flawlessly.

That’s for today… see you soon and keep uour fingers crossed for my order to arrive faster.

Bye!

I have never had one of these wonderful toys and although I don't deny that I would like to, sometimes I see it more as a whim than something really necessary, because I buy ground coffee,

Your post reminded me of several friends who buy roasted coffee beans and grind them before brewing coffee, they say that way the coffee tastes better.

Oh, grinding your coffee right before brewing brings the best taste out of the beans. And if you buy ground coffee, one of these “toys” won’t really serve you as they are supposed to. Furthermore, every different coffee requires a different grind setting so you have to play a bit before you find the best grind size.

Thank you for stopping by!
