The day when the string of errors gave me better opportunities.

Decision to switch jobs is never an easy one, but it was time for a change anyway. The last months seemed to be very boring and I felt that I was going nowhere with the job and the position I had till now. The wise decision was to apply for a position in a bigger company, which could possibly give me the opportunity to grow in the hierarchy. Of course, I passed the first phase of the interview, almost everybody will be able to do that, and I was going to have a meeting with the manager in the final phase.

It was a day with huge anticipation and full of hopes about the future. The evening before, I set my alarm for 7:00 and went to bed early. I should have full concentration for the following event. My morning routine would include some refreshing in the bathroom, peacefully brewing a cup of filter coffee, and then without rushing to reach the company building no later than 9:00
The first sunrays reached my face and I immediately understood that something was wrong. The sunrise occurs at about 7:15 these days. Reaching my phone I understood it was out of battery… Something was wrong with the charger and it didn’t even start to charge when I plugged it in. I rushed into the living room and I saw it was actually 7:45 already. DON’T PANIC… yet! I still have time, sadly not for a filter coffee.

I switched on my espresso machine. I can pull a shot in about 2 minutes and then keep up with my plan. Oh my lord… the espresso machine needs an urgent descaling. This means at least 20 minutes… I guess I’ll have to skip the morning coffee…

Time to dress up real quick… I cannot miss the opportunity about this new job. Walking to the office building wasn’t in consideration anymore. I have to ride the subway, or ill be late. It’s still a strong possibility to be a bit late, but 10 minutes won’t be a great deal, right? I was still managing to keep myself out of big worries.

The subway came just in time and I was about 15 minutes away from my interview. When the train departed from the last stop something weird happened. All the light came off and train stopped in the tunnel. The emergency lights turned on and a notification came through the audio system of the subway.

“Attention, attention. We have some electrical issues with lines 1 and 2. Please stay calm, we will be able to continue in about 10 minutes…”
All right then… so much with my time management. I guess my interview is already done. Thinking a little bit, I decided that it would be a good opportunity to visit the nearby specialty coffee shop. My morning coffee will become true after all.

It was 2 minute walk from the subway station. I entered the cozy coffee shop and I immediately felt relief. The divine aroma refreshed my soul and I was ready for the delicious dose. The barista behind the desk was extremely happy looking person.

“Do you know how to brew espresso?”, he asked.
“Of course, it’s part of my everyday morning routine.” I explained.
“Wanna come behind and pull a shot for me… and probably for you too?”
“That’s gonna be great!”
I ground the coffee, prepared the portafilter, and pulled this beautiful specialty coffee shot. The other man reached his cup. He tried it. An even bigger smile appeared on his face.
“That’s a perfect one! Wanna start a new job? I’m the owner of this place and I desperately need someone to run the coffee shop for me. I’m opening my second place in a matter of weeks!”

The idea of brewing coffee for a job was new to me, but it sounded excellent. I had the opportunity now to work the thing what brings the greatest joy for me. All these errors with the interview gave me a greater opportunity. Maybe I should grab the deal without much thinking…
