My coffee dedicated kitchen scale broke… But I was happy to receive another set of coffee gifts!
It was Friday at noontime… I received this call from my wife and she informed me that our kitchen scale was involved in an accident.
As she was pouring hot water in a jar it cracked and all the water flooded the scale. Well, I assume it was time for new. It would be great if I had the finances to just go on and buy a specialist coffee scale with integrated timer, but they sell for about $50-$100 and this investment is not that wise just at that particular moment. My decision was to go straight to the local store and buy the cheapest replacement. At least it has some nice color, right?
But… now let’s go back a day earlier… On Thursday I visited our favorite Specialty Coffee place with the idea to buy a bag of their newly arrived set of coffees, and as a result of my visit I left the place with two presents. One of them was an Ethiopian coffee that was roasted by a beginner roaster here in Bulgaria. I think he even does not sell his products to anyone… Just trusted friends and coffee places.
And the other coffee was a little sample of another coffee variety. Just a single dose, but I was extremely happy to receive these two gifts.
Time for KHEM Sidama Bombe coffee beans… Bombe is a mountain region of Ethiopia where a group of farmers formed an organisation and grow one of the finest coffee cherries in Ethiopia. They dry their coffee on raised African beds and cover them with a plastic mesh. This reduces the speed of drying amd gives the cherries more time to develop fruitful flavors.
But let’s proceed to the coffee brewing. I have a new scale and feel more than ready!
The beans are like medium like roast and I will use a bot cooler water. I will aim at about 88 degrees in order to reduce the bitter flavor extraction.
I will be enjoying the coffee alone, because my wife just left for yoga class… 15 grams dose sounds perfect. Any ideas which method will I use? It is at least a couple of weeks since I last used the… AeroPress!
Coffee is ground, water is hot, time for action! I have to tell you that the aroma released when I was grinding the coffee was already rising my anticipation. It was interestinng… and yeah, fruitful! Maybe some blueberries, some dark fruit, but the aroma and taste when being brewed may easily change!
Two minutes… that is the time I need to brew these beans in the AeroPress and now, time to extract.
Can you guess the cup where I will transfer this coffee? I think it has some fans among the readers! You made the right suggestion! It is the Japanese arigatou cat cup! The choice every time when I drink my coffee alone, either filter, AeroPress or even espresso!
The taste of the coffee when it is hot has some interesting cinnamon vibes in it. It tasted like some cookies to me, and when cooling down a bit, the fruity vibes start to shine. A taste of black tea blends well with some peaches and finishes a bit like crispy apple. It certainlya has this sourish biting finish in the mouth.
It was interesting to try and find all the different tastes without a guidelines on the label, but after all if the coffee is enjoyed, who cares what flavors it brings to us? This one was definitely good!
It is time to end my post now, so see you again very soon!
Bye and have a nice weekend!
It is always fun to read about the new coffees you try. It's exciting to get to sample small batch beans! The mug is definitely awesome to see too! Happy weekend to you 😁
My coffee experience definitely lies entirely on trying and finding new coffees and new coffee roasters (I mean new to me)… And the coffee mug is just perfectly imperfect. I like it a lot! Thanks for visiting me.

The Ethiopia you mentioned, is it the one in Africa?
I never knew that ETHIOPIA produces coffee. I wish we have it here in Nigeria too😢
Yup! The same Ethiopia that is in Africa and by the way, they are one of the best coffee producers in the world. A story tells that an Ethiopian goat man (Kaldi) found the coffee fruits a long time ago and he saw that his goats act energetic when eating of this specific “bush”. That’s how the coffee was found!
Coffee likes high altitudes, more than 1200-1500 meters above sea level. I don’t know why you in Nigeria don’t have coffee, maybe the climate is not that good for coffee growing, but I am sure you can find good coffee somewhere around you.
Wow!
Thank you for this detail.
Yeah, Yeah, my country is always hot
Yay! 🤗
