Arran starts to occupy my house… Let’s see what do we have here! Arran Barrel Reserve…

Well, let’s see… My experience with Arran distillery began about a year ago when I bought a bottle as a present for a friend. It was some months later when I bought the 10 YO Arran, which I reviewed in this community some time ago.

And today I have these…

It is like a little collection of Arran spirits and I am quite excited every time I pour myself a treat. The second product out of the collection to buy was the Barrel Reserve bottle which is the target of today’s post. It is one of the youngest products that is in the Arran range.

This exact bottle has a little history behind… I bought it as a gift, but then I took one of the best decisions in my life… to replace it with another bottle that I had at home.

Someone brought this Dimple at my house, and I thought that the Arran would be a lot better tasting than this, having in mind their similar price point. And just like that, the Barrel Reserve is now in the glass!

The color is stray yellow, a lot lighter than the 10 YO one, it shines quite pleasantly, promising a lighter taste as well. In the nose I was quite surprised to find a lot of fruitiness, mainly pears and some apples on the side. I haven’t smelled such a fruitful whisky in a while, which built up a bit more my excitement.

In the mouth the things just started to become even better. The fine fruits are accompanied by some citrus freshness, which evolves into vanilla sweetness. It is amazing how complex is the flavor, having in mind the low age of this spirit!

The finish is also light, and misses the heavy oak flavor, which can be found in other Single malts. There is wood for sure, but it just compliments the fruity body of the whisky.

Between the Barrel Reserve and 10 YO, I will definitely choose the BR, for being lighter and fruitier, at least for regular everyday treat. The 10 YO is also great, but I would prefer it for a different occasion, in the company of a nice dessert.

This second bottle of Arran definitely proves the great quality of their products, which comes at a very reasonable pricing. We can find similar products of famous distilleries at a much higher prices!

And speaking of fine malts, let’s see what did I just received… I even didn’t have the time and the special occasion to open the bottle and try this!

The Arran Private Cask Bulgarian Oloroso Shery Butt seems like the star among my collection. It is a lot darker and reddish in color, but that’s all I can say for now. I decided to grab this bottle (out of 654 bottled) before it disappears from the shops. And I promose one day I will post a review about it!

That is all for now, wish you a pleasant week!
See you soon! Cheers!

You have quite a collection there. I ought to try some Arran. On Hive we have @camuel who lives on the Isle, but I think he doesn't drink any more.

Enjoy!

That’s great! I think another HIVEr is from this region of Scotland, but currently lives in Italy… I think she is @clareartista … And yes, the Arran collection is quite a solid one.
