As technology and education become the two most important pillars of sustainable development for nations, I am glad to report that Hive blockchain has continued to demonstrate their commitment to supporting communities in finding real-world solutions. The extent of this commitment is best illustrated by the provision of educational materials to rural schools in villages across Ghana.

Most rural schools lack the basic supplies required for students to attain a quality education. In some isolated instances, students have articulated the lack of support from Hive initiatives because they are forced to try and learn at school without having a textbook or even using a piece of paper to write with.

Hive's education materials are affecting students learning. For many students, the prospect of buying a textbook or owning a notebook or school supply was previously a distant ambition. The projects supported by Hive have provided students with a resource that can help them engage in lessons in a more meaningful way. Teachers have seen a level of increase in students' participation in class and engagement with their classmates, increasing their excitement with each other – with vulnerable students getting exposure from being able to do various activities that foster a curiosity and love of everything around them.

Rather than take the charitable approach through Hive, Hive has viewed things from more of an empowerment approach. Hive has demonstrated an investment in the education of future leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs of Ghana. Hive is not just providing educational materials; they are beginning to create the infrastructural components necessary for students to develop critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills for a world that is ever-changing. Hive's recognition that blockchain signifies people and possibilities is evidence Hive understands blockchain.

I love how Hive is unwavering, not only with the funding but also with their partnerships, engagement and real care for sustainable practices. They show up with clean water, entrepreneurship, and now education. Hive is giving an indication that they will create change that is good. Collectively, years of as solid, consistent effort as Hive has made will build trust with local communities, and you can see and feel that blockchain cannot be underestimated for creating meaningful and significant change.

The educational materials initiative is a courageous reminder of the bigger picture Hive is seeing: decentralised systems that are uplifting and are inclusive of everyone, not just those who have easy access to technology. Supporting the students in the remote villages with new technology and education provides an opportunity for the technology and education space to openly support those that have been the most socially excluded and disadvantaged. The education initiative is also a great example of how blockchain innovation could be proactively addressing problems that have previously stood in the way of change.

I will say all the students, teachers and even the parents that participated in, or had some interaction with, Hive were all so thankful and energised. Just a little bit of change creates a big change. Education in many of the places we visited, in the village setting, is in the minds of some viewed as the vehicle to break the cycle of poverty, and Hive supported that hope for a better future in the simple but immensely powerful way. Students who were missing some of the basics that many of us do not even think about were dreaming bigger; all it took was the gift of learning tools in front of them.

Hive's stories in Ghana are stories of hope, innovation and action. This story gives hope around the world that blockchain can mean more than the same transaction systems, and it can mean something transformational.
