Some shots of the historic center of Pontevedra, Spain. 🕍📸

Knowing some corners of Galicia I have found Pontevedra, it's a small but very nice city, which is the capital of the province of the same name.

My husband and I had to go not exactly for a walk but we had to do an errand of documents in the city. After taking care of our business we asked some people about the most visited places in the city, they told us many names but our time was only enough to visit the center which was the highlight.

To get from Vigo to Pontevedra if you do not have a car, the simplest and easiest way is to do it by train, in 10 minutes you arrive to Pontevedra by train and it is worth it because you can enjoy seeing the landscapes of the charming villages along the way.

We walked alone through the historic center. As it was a weekday and early in the morning, there were not many people on the street, which gave us the opportunity to better appreciate the beauty of the place.

Like any European city, it has old buildings and cathedrals, even government agencies have offices in old buildings. Something that makes me fall in love with the old architecture of Spain are the stone constructions, I think it makes the facades look strong and impeccable.

Ravachol Parrot Sculpture

***

Something that made me curious is that in the plaza of La Peregrina there is a sculpture of a parrot, according to what some locals told me and then I researched on the internet, is that this little friend was the pet of a merchant of medicines and had the parrot as an assistant in his apothecary.

He would tell his owner when someone entered the premises and every time the customers left he would tell them to pay before leaving. He became very well known by the townspeople and they became so fond of him that when he died in 1913, they held a big funeral for him. He became a symbol of the city and in his name his funeral is recreated every year during the carnivals.

He was definitely a good employee, because he took good care of his owner's business, he knew where the money for the food came from. 😁

Pilgrim Virgin Church

Pontevedra has several churches in a very small area, but this one (above), was the one that caught my attention the most, perhaps because of its shape, it is as if half of it lay buried and only the tip of a tower is showing in the middle of the square.

This small church was built in honor of the virgin who accompanied the pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago and was declared a historical monument.

Some Black&White Shots

***

Being a fan of B&W images, I wanted to do some monochromatic ones just to see how they looked with those textures. I think they look great, they highlight the stone blocks, the wear and tear on the buildings and the sky looks more dramatic.
