The Havana Malecón, a precious treasure [Eng/Esp]

PORTADA.jpg

ENGLISH VERSION

Hello my dear travelers, I invite you to visit my most precious treasure: the Havana boardwalk. I have the joy of living in front of the sea, it is very gratifying to be able to see it, smell it and feel it every day.

Today I felt the need to share my walk through this area so that you can get to know its beauty. These days the weather is wonderful, with the sun very bright and the temperature very cool because these days we have a cold front, something very unusual at this time of year. I don't remember that we were cold in April in the past, since I was born several decades ago winter began in November and ended in February, perhaps at the beginning of March.

This year has been different, but I am not complaining, on the contrary, I prefer it because the summer is very strong and we suffer from months of intense heat, the good thing is that we can go to cool off on the beach or in some areas of this same coast where it is allowed to bathe.
Therefore, I have gone for a walk to enjoy it to the fullest because these may be the last cold days of the season.

We are in the area at the west end of the Havana boardwalk where the Torreón de La Chorrera is located, a small fortress that served as a surveillance and defense in colonial times. Nowadays it is an open-air café-bar that operates in the evenings, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the sea and its breeze.

We see that the sea is restless and is a product of this cold front, on normal days the sea is very calm. There are areas where the sea hits hard against the wall and can wet people who pass nearby, so I have been careful to take the photos.

A turkey vulture has landed on the wall of the boardwalk, it must be looking for food, I approached, but it took flight and I was able to take these beautiful photos of it in mid-flight.

It is customary for the villagers to fish from the wall, we see them in groups of friends and they spend a lot of time talking while fishing. It is also a good time for a parent to teach their child the art of fishing, thus transferring knowledge between generations and strengthening family ties.

Now we are in an area that is lower and the sea enters with more force, in times of hurricanes this area is flooded. At the moment vehicle traffic is closed on the avenue to avoid accidents. This pleasant atmosphere and beautiful surroundings encourage lovers to have a moment of romance, even dogs enjoy this moment haha.

This pleasant day of being in direct contact with the sea brought to mind a poem by the Cuban poet Dulce María Loynaz, Island Creature:

Surrounded by sea on all sides,
I am an island clinging to the stem of the winds...

With this beautiful verse I say goodbye with the hope that you have liked to know this Havana treasure.

See you soon!
