Sunflowers for Our Patron Saint. DAY 4 HiveAroundTheWorld [ENG/ESP]

The Virgin of Charity of Cobre identifies us as Cubans more than just a religion; she is an essential part of our culture. She has been our patron saint since the beginning of the last century, representing love and fertility. She is venerated by both Catholics and Afro-Cubans; the latter call her Ochún, so Cubans identify her by both names, regardless of their religious beliefs. Her main cathedral is located in the province of Santiago de Cuba, but Havana also has a church named Our Lady of Charity of Cobre, located in a neighborhood very close to the National Capitol. The sunflower is the flower that represents her; this beautiful flower, associated with joy, friendship, and love, is never missing from her altar. That is why today I offer her these beautiful sunflowers as a sign of faith and devotion. Furthermore, her distinctive color is yellow, which is why her churches are painted this color. This church is simple but very beautiful. La Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre más que religión nos identifica como cubanos, es parte esencial de nuestra cultura. Es nuestra patrona desde inicios del siglo pasado, representa el amor y la fertilidad. Es venerada tanto por católicos como por afrocubanos, éstos la nombran Ochún por eso el cubano la identifica con los dos nombres sin importar cuál es su creencia.
Su catedral principal se encuentra en la provincia de Santiago de Cuba, pero La Habana también tiene su iglesia nombrada Nuestra Señora de la Caridad del Cobre, se encuentra en un barrio muy cerca del Capitolio Nacional.
El girasol es la flor que la representa, en su altar no falta nunca esta bella flor, que está asociada a la alegría, la amistad y el amor, por eso hoy le ofrezco estos bellísimos girasoles como muestra de fe y devoción. Además, el color que la distingue es el amarillo, por eso es de este color que se pintan sus iglesias.
Esta iglesia es sencilla pero muy hermosa, en estos momentos que la visité se encuentra en reparación por eso el altar lo situaron en la entrada para que los fieles pudieran rezar y dejarle sus ofrendas.
