Family Tetrigidae

While I was in my uncle's oil palm plantation, I happened to spot a brownish-black grasshopper. It was relatively small, making its presence easy to overlook or even miss entirely. While it is easily spotted against green foliage—since its color contrasts sharply with the natural greenery—it is very difficult to detect when perched on tree trunks or on the ground; its unique coloration allows it to blend in seamlessly with the trees. Intrigued, I decided to photograph it; given its small size, I used a macro lens, and the resulting images were highly satisfying. A distinctive feature of grasshoppers is their pair of large hind legs used for jumping—a trait shared by almost all species in the group. Although many people, especially farmers, view grasshoppers as pests due to the damage they can cause to various crops, I personally prefer to tolerate their presence as long as their population remains under control.

It also has a pair of translucent brown antennae, and I am sure we all know the function of antennae in insects.
