Erebidae Family

Since the rainy season began in my area, I no longer need to water the ornamental plants in front of my house—which is certainly good news. However, the downside is that many of my plants have started turning yellow due to an uncontrolled pest population, specifically caterpillars. The photos I am sharing today illustrate both the unique appearance and the menacing nature of a particular brown, hairy caterpillar. It is relatively large and covered in dense hair; it is also extremely dangerous because its hairs can cause itching and swelling—swelling that often persists long after the itching has subsided. I discovered this caterpillar on one of the ornamental plants in my front yard; the moment I saw it, I felt a chill run down my spine, and the hair on my body stood on end. I knew I had to remove it from the plant immediately, as these creatures can devour foliage incredibly fast—a truly worrying prospect. Yet, before removing it, I took a moment to snap some photos. I shot them from a considerable distance; I didn't even dare to use a macro lens. I reiterate: this is a highly dangerous caterpillar, both for humans and for plants.
