Looking at the countryside from a different angle =/= Auf dem Land mal anders 🎎👹🍣 Beautiful Japan ENG-GER

It doesn't always have to be a big city, it's quite nice in the countryside too.

So it is in Japan, where outside the cities you will of course mainly see lush green rice paddies, especially here in our prefecture, which is famous and infamous for its rice and sake. Since Japan is largely covered by mountain ranges, people here try to use every available spot for rice cultivation. But even in the lowlands, things sometimes look quite different, like around Sagata 佐潟, a freshwater lagoon not far from the Sea of Japan.

In the background, you can see Kakuda Mountain, right by the sea, and in the foreground, a lush green landscape where many things are growing and thriving, especially when the rainy season is over.

We discovered this place a while ago, and we have already been here several times and stretched our legs.

The place looks good, and around the lagoon there are also countless fields where everything but rice is grown. It was great fun to walk around here and the best thing was that we were able to avoid almost all the other people. For me, these are ideal conditions for a pleasant time.

But just have a look for yourself and join us on a little walk around the Sagata Lagoon.

Es muss nicht immer Großstadt sein, auf dem Land ist es doch auch ganz schön.

So auch in Japan, wo man außerhalb der Städte natürlich vor allen saftig-grüne Reisfelder zu sehen bekommt, und das besonders bei uns in der Präfektur, welche für ihren Reis und Sake berühmt und berüchtigt ist. Da Japan zu einem großen Teil von Gebirgsketten bedeckt ist, wird versucht jeden verfügbaren Flecken für den Reisanbau zu verwenden. Aber auch im Flachland sieht es dann manchmal ganz anders aus, so wie um Sagata 佐潟, einer Süßwasserlagune unweit des Japanischen Meeres.

Im Hintergrund sieht man den direkt am Meer gelegenen Kakuda-Berg, und im Vordergrund eine üppig grüne Landschaft, in der insbesondere nach der Regenzeit vieles nur so sprießt und gedeiht.

Wir haben diesen Ort vor ein paar Jahren für uns entdeckt, und waren schon einige Male hier und haben uns ordentlich die Beine vertreten.

Der Ort wirkt, und um die Lagune gibt es auch unzählige Felder, auf denen alles nur kein Reis angebaut wird. Es hat einfach Spaß gemacht, hier ein wenig zu laufen und das Beste war, dass man dabei fast allen anderen Menschen aus dem Weg gehen konnte. Das sind für mich doch ganz ideale Voraussetzungen für eine angenehme Zeit.

Aber schaut doch einfach mal selbst, und begleitet uns auf einer kleinen Wanderung um die Sagata-Lagune.

As mentioned earlier, everything is growing vigorously around here, and it's wonderfully green and fresh everywhere you look. Since Japan is not lacking in rainfall, the conditions are ideal for a green environment.

Wie schon erwähnt, wächst zur Zeit alles kräftig, und es ist herrlich grün und frisch, wohin man auch schaut. Das Japan in Sachen Niederschlag wahrlich nicht mangelt, sind natürlich für eine grüne Umgebung ideale Voraussetzungen gesetzt.

Acting as quite a rare change of scenery, this wildflower meadow was providing some great red highlights to the picture.

Als recht seltene Abwechslung im Landschaftsbild fungierte diese Wildblumenwiese, welche ein paar tolle Rotakzente ins Bild warf.

Here we had to puzzle for a long time what this plant was all about, but after some questioning we were redeemed. Tobacco! I didn't expect to find it here, but why should this noble crop not be found in these regions?

Hier mussten wir lange rätseln, worum es sich wohl bei dieser Pflanze handelt, aber nach einigem Nachfragen würden wir erlöst. Tabak! Den hatte ich hier eigentlich gar nicht erwartet, aber warum sollte diese vornehme Kulturpflanze in diesen Breiten fehlen?

We shouldn't be shy with onions, so someone has to grow them. Everything is neatly lined up here, and nobody is allowed to cause some confusion.

Da man mit Zwiebeln nicht geizen soll, muss diese ja auch jemand anbauen. Streng in Reih und Glied hat alles seine Ordnung hier. Ordentlich Bolle braucht der Mensch!

Melons also seem to be thriving and are always in big demand, even at rather exorbitant costs. Sometimes you get the feeling here in Japan that fruits are something of a luxury good, given the prices that are often called for.

Auch Melonen scheinen ja gut zu gedeihen und auch für einen ziemlich üppigen Preis gut nachgefragt zu werden. Teilweise hat man in Japan das Gefühl, dass Obst so etwas wie ein Luxus gut ist, bei den Preisen die oft aufgerufen werden.

And of course we also found some watermelon, which are a super popular snack for many families during the hot and sweaty Japanese summer. As you can see in the next pictures, it's not only us humans who like to help ourselves, but also the wildlife doesn't ask twice. Here, either a tanuki or a raven has celebrated a delicious meal.

Und natürlich darf natürlich die gute Wassermelone nicht fehlen, gerade im Sommer in vielen Familien ein begehrter Snack zwischendurch. Wie ihr in den nächsten Bildern sehen könnt, greifen nicht nur wir Menschen gerne zu, sondern auch die Tierwelt lässt sich nicht zweimal bitten. Hier hat entweder ein Tanuki oder ein Rabe ein köstliches Mahl gefeiert.

And in the middle of the fields, in a rather small groove, we discovered this shrine. According to the sign, there used to be a castle here during the great civil war area, but there are no traces of it today. So even history was made here.

Und in Mitten der Felder, in einem ziemlich kleinem Hein, haben wir dann auch noch diesen Schrein entdeckt. Laut Schild gab es hier früher in der Zeit der großen Bürgerkriege eine Burg, von der heute aber keine Spuren mehr zu entdecken sind. Sogar Geschichte wurde hier geschrieben.

But at the end we were not completely alone, there was a lot of active wildlife surrounding us. Especially in the air and on and in the water, there was a lot going on, and we were even able to see some of the creatures up close. Thanks a lot for your patience!

Aber so ganz alleine waren wir dann doch nicht, um uns herum hat uns eine rege Tierwelt begleitet. Besonders in der Luft und auf und im Wasser war ziemlich was los, und einige Gestalten durften wir sogar aus der Nähe betrachten. Eure Geselligkeit war uns eine Freude.

We ended our afternoon excursion with a small evening picnic. It's best to eat outside anyway, and no matter what you have, it tastes at least twice as good.

Das Ende unseres nachmittäglichen Ausflugs haben wir dann mit einem kleinen Abendbrotpicknick ausklingen lassen. Draußen isst es sich eh am besten, und egal, was man dabei hat, es schmeckt mindestens doppelt so gut.

By the way, on that day we were also doubly rewarded. Firstly, with fresh air and wonderful nature and lots of good vibes, and then we unexpectedly became the owners of this quite good-looking watermelon. During our little hike, we got into conversation with a farmer woman who had been tidying up the fields, and who first cut open one of the unharvested melons and offered it to us. Eventually she also gave us another one to take with us on our way. Guess whose rucksack suddenly gained many times its planned weight? But well, now we have something tasty to feast on the next day.

Ach ja, an jenem Tag wurden wir auch noch doppelt belohnt. Zum einen mit frischer Luft und wunderbar Natur und viel guter Laune, und dann wurden wir noch ganz unverhofft Besitzer dieser ziemlich gut aussehenden Wassermelone. Während unser kleinen Wanderung sind wir mit einer Landwirtin ins Gespräch gekommen, welche auf den Feldern ein wenig für Ordnung gesorgt hat, und welche uns von den nicht abgeernteten Melonen erst eine aufgeschnitten und angeboten, und dann noch eine weitere für den Weg mitgegeben hat. Ihr dürft mal raten, wessen Rucksack plötzlich ein Vielfaches des eigentlich geplanten Gewichts gewonnen hat. Aber dafür hatten wir dann am nächsten Tag dann auch wieder etwas leckeres zu schmausen.

All right, that's it for today. As you can see, there is something different to see around every corner in Japan too. It's like everywhere else, you just have to get out and take a look. And since we regularly open our eyes and look closely, there will be some more fancy photos next time too. You better believe it!
