Choose your poison - virus or bacteria? πŸ‘ΉπŸ£πŸŽŽ My Japan

Over the last few days, things have been rather unpleasant again. As is so often the case, it started with the little ones, who brought an uninvited visitor from kindergarten which managed within a short space of time to put half the family out of work. When it comes to viruses, there's never a dull moment and you never stop learning. Now that the flu season is over, other viruses are taking over and trying to teach you a lesson, which they unfortunately succeed in doing far too often.

In our case, it was a representative of the Adenoviruses that had made it into our house and seemed to feel extremely comfortable here. Who can blame it, we always have a good time at home too, why should it be any different for others?

The name Adenovirus didn't mean much to me before, but a little research quickly showed that we were dealing with no stranger here. Anyone infected with this bugger can expect a variety of problems, in particular it is responsible for diseases of the respiratory tract, the gastrointestinal tract or the eye. The virus is also highly contagious and quite tough and resistant, which was probably another reason for wanting to stay with us for so long.

It was mainly a very high fever that caused problems for the family, a fever which can last up to a week. There were also problems with the eyes and stomach, and it seemed that someone had to show off their whole arsenal of nasty tricks. There is supposedly no real treatment in this case, you just have to play along with the game and stick it out to the end. Eventually things will be fine and you'll be allowed back into the garden.

In addition to all the viruses, there are also a whole host of bacteria that can affect you unexpectedly. In our case, it was a member of the streptococcus group that found its way into our house at the same time as the adenovirus and wanted to let off a little steam here as well.

The symptoms were quite similar, and again everything started with a fever, which unfortunately wasn't just limited to the little ones. In the case of streptococcus, which is of course also extremely contagious, antibiotics can be used to combat it, which should shorten the suffering and speed up recovery. So at least there was hope and the prospect of an end to the whole mess.

Personally, I tried to ignore all the viruses and bacteria during these days and convince myself that everything was fine with me. Although, unfortunately, I also realized rather soon that I should rather stayed in bed on some of the last days. But that simply wasn't an option, and as long as I didn't have a thermometer showing me that I have fever, I don't have fever. And all I have to do is stay away from all the thermometers in the world. Sometimes it can be so easy not to get sick. At least officially, and that was all that mattered this time.

Fortunately, everyone is feeling better now, although not everyone is really back to normal yet. And so far my ignorance and stubbornness has probably paid off and at least at this moment I can feel that the worst should now be behind us.

And since the forecast for the next few days is "warm and sunny", I'm quite optimistic. But course, I don't want to repeat the last week, which on the other won't be possible forever. Last fall was a warning to us all, but I'd rather not think back to that now. I prefer to look forward to sunshine and wish all viruses and bacteria a safe journey. And full power to all of us!
