At 3 o'clock =/= Um 3 Uhr 👹🍣🎎 Wonderful Japan ENG-GER

One one day at the end of last year, when I was on my way home, I passed a small box containing small pots of plants. The attached message told me that I was welcome to help myself and take one of the green pots home with me. Well, I didn't know at all what contained, but my curiosity convinced me nevertheless to put one of the small flower pots in front of my door. Even after a little research, we still didn't know what it was, but we were interested to see how our little pot would develop over time.

It really took a while, but in the last few days something finally happened. The first flowers opened and appeared in a bright and cheerful yellow. The interesting thing was that these flowers only seem to open in the afternoon and close again towards the evening. And even in the morning you can only see a little red from the buds, so I initially assumed that outside our door there would soon be a splash of red.

But as I said, the flowers are yellow and I meanwhile also know what our plant is. We are dealing with Bergeranthus, a member of the midday flower family, which is probably native to South Africa. The Japanese name is Sanjiso サンジソウ, which means “three o'clock grass”. The plant's name is really fitting, as it indicates exactly the time when you can enjoy its yellow flowers.

Let's see how many more flowers will eventually open. There are only two so far, but I've discovered more buds, so it may soon glow a little more yellow on our doorstep. At least in the afternoon, and coincidentally I should be home tomorrow at exactly 3 o'clock. Let's see if our little flower has set their clock too...

Ende letzten Jahres kam ich auf dem Rückweg an einer kleinen Kiste vorbei, in n kleine Planztöpfe standen. Die angebrachte Nachricht teilte mir, dass man sich doch gerne bedienen und einen der grünen Töpfe mit nach Hause nehmen darf. Nun ja, ich wusst zwar nicht, worum es sich hier handelte, aber meine Neugier hatte mich dann doch davon überzeugt, mir einen kleinen Blumetopf vor die Türe zu stellen. Auch nach ein wenig Nachforschungen wussten wir weiterhin nicht, worum es sich hier wohl handeln würde, aber wir waren gespannt, wie sich unser Töpfchen im Laufe der Zeit denn entwickeln würde.

Es hatte wirklich etwas gedauert, aber in den letzten Tagen ist dann endlich etwas passiert. Die ersten Blüten sind aufgegangen und leuchteten mir in einem kräfigen und fröhlichen Gelb entgegen. Das Interessante war, dass diese Blüten nur am Nachmittag aufzugehen scheinen und sich gegen Abend wieder schließen. Und auch am Morgen sieht man aus den Knospen nur etwas rotes leuchten, so dass ich zu allererst davon ausgegangen war, dass vor unserer Tür demnächst ein wenig Rot erstrahlen wird.

Aber wie gesagt, die Blüten sind gelb und mittlerweile weiß ich auch, worum es sich bei unserer Pflanze handelt. Wir haben es hier mit Bergeranthus, einem Vertreter aus der Familie der Mittagsblumengewächse, welche wohl in Südafrika zu Hause ist. Der japanische Name ist Sanjiso サンジソウ, was so viel wie "Drei Uhr-Gras" bedeutet. Der Name der Pflanze ist wirklich passend, zeigt es doch genau die Zeit an, zu der man sich an ihren gelben Blüten erfreuen kann.

Mal schauen, wie viele Blüten noch aufgehen werden. Bisher sind es nur zwei, aber ich habe noch weitere Knospen entdeckt, so dass es demnächst vielleicht noch ein wenig gelber vor unserer Haustür leuchten könnte. Zumindest am Nachmittag, und passenderweise sollte ich morgen genau um 3 Uhr wieder zu Hause sein. Mal schauen, ob sich unser Blümchen auch den Wecker gestellt hat...
