A little experiment and now I am for over two weeks without (almost) any news

Even if I haven't been 100% strict this weekend, the words from this article, which is now also available in English, still apply today. Because about two and a half weeks ago, I decided on the spur of the moment to completely abstain from news and pretty much all social media for a few days. As I had noticed again and again, I spend far too much time informing myself about current events, especially politics or world affairs. In times of Internet and especially smartphone and Co. of course we have the possibility to inform ourselves about everything and everyone around the clock, and thus we are always ahead of the newspaper of tomorrow, whose information seem to be like re-brewed lukewarm coffee.
During my breaks, I myself constantly reached for my smartphone and tried to keep up to date. There was never more information served as today, and especially when living far away from my home country, I like it to stay connected and in touch. But somehow I got the feeling that this can't only be good, because unfortunately there is usually only bad news to read. As if the good ones were simply left out. Or maybe they don't exist at all. Anyway, I decided that my news consumption can't be healthy either and that I should limit it for a bit.
With social media it's a bit different, except for here on the Blockchain I'm not that active and the content of recent information there is rather limited. But I wanted to fade that out as well.
And when could be a better time than right now, when this unspeakable and ridiculous WorldCup is going on. Already in the run-up I had decided not to watch a single game. Most advertisers can do without me anyway, and to watch interesting and real football, it's best to go to the lower leagues, where you can actually see some genuine play being done and where players don't change clubs, to which the just have sworn lifelong allegiance, because of a few million euros more a year. Although I myself had played football for a long time and there was no better game for me, there was no WorldCup going on this year.
But of course, you can't escape usually the football news as well, and you are almost bombarded with them. And after I was presented with one or the other result and was even allowed to hear that the German team was disgracing itself once again, I decided to keep all news away from me for a few days. Which meant, in particular, hands off the smartphone, unless there was something important to research. For example the weather of tomorrow.
And so it came that for over two weeks now I am having no real clue of what if going on anymore and I am no longer informed about any world events. Whether it feels good, I can not really say. Sometimes I rather feels boring. I like reading the news and getting informed but I am trying to stick to my plan. But it became particulary difficult since I got sick at the beginning of last week and I had to lie in bed for a few days and there was nothing to do anyway. But well, I then just closed my eyes and tried to sleep a little more.
Of course, you can never completely escape world events, even here on the blockchain I received a few football news, although I had not even looked for it. But I will probably continue my little personal experiment for a few more days and try to avoid all information about current events for a little longer. Since I'm confined to my room anyway and will be all alone for a few more days, that's not so difficult on the one hand, but it makes the whole thing rather monotonous. But who knows, maybe in the end I' ll understand the meaning behind it. At least a lot of what happens can't upset me anymore. According to the motto: What I don't know won't hurt me!
It's good to go on a media detox and flush out all the outside noise that constantly agitates the mind making it restless. Hope you find new realizations with this experiment :)
first time I am really doing it. But it feels right, so I want to keep this feeling a little longer
I stopped paying attention to news a while ago. I'm not missing anything. Anything really important (like the war in Ukraine) will manage to get to me fine, so I'm not worried about missing anything. I'm much happier for not watching it! I fully recommend making your news-fast permanent, or at least doing it for a few days every week.
