For couple of months the entering into the dry season caught a lot of crops unaware and it makes the riding on the agricultural Farmland more tedious to bring out crops naturally. But for the meantime getting into the deep agricultural farm methods can implement more production even when the weather is not very conducive. This is what I mean. For those that actually have other ways and other agricultural farm method to cultivate their crops will always survive better.
This equally brings along more natural way to cultivate crops even when so many people tend to stand still. The use of so many method has been proven from time passed and yes it's still get on into more production. This production can be for crops such as tomatoes, green vegetables, pepper, cassava, flowers cowpea, garlic, onions, pineapple and so on. Depending on the type of environment you find yourself. And the type of crop that will grow better and more faster. The common crop that you can ever see here in west African Nigeria is the Maize. So for me as individual farmer I always cultivate it all year round. It always give me a lot of challenges but because I have been into it for a long period of time, it works most times. And here we have a little portion of the farm section where I cultivated and also go to harvest. For Maize Farmer we already know that it's not a child play to have this type of Farm because even naturally during the rain season it takes a lot of good motivation always to make it grow up on a good note not to talk of in another type of season.
When is comes to crops like this see it falls into different categories whereby you may see some crops grow up evenly and other crop growing up not responding at all. So your duty is to make sure that you need to bring them to work to your favor and to also bring in more production at the same time. This is an example of not growing up Maize produce. Although it has already spent the required month which is 3 and 1/2 months and yet we have it growing up premature.
Making good emphasis on maize will make you as individual farmer to reassure yourself that even when you are cultivating this type of crop in the next planting season it will give you more better production and more improvement. Some Maize crops grow up to show this physical appearances which makes it more attractive and to conclude that it has grown up to it full maturity States.
This is where mix cropping system also comes in. You can absolutely cultivate mixed crop in the mix of some other green vegetable crops as well and one crop will never disturb the another. When one crop reaches it maturity state, you harvest it to time. These will ensure that the safety of other crops is attained very fast that it will be shown within some few days.
As regular practices, good and constant eradication of weed should also be done on a regular basis not postponing this type of Farm activity. There are some Farm activities that may be postponed about when it comes to regular weeding, it must be done to time so that your plant can be free from surrounding competition of unwanted plant.
- Immediately you harvest you also need to arrange the Maize stalk in row or column, where you can also compile this, for manure. It may not decay instantly because of the nature of the plant itself. So you need a period of 3 to 4 months before you can see this type of plant decay completely in some cases 6 months. Then it will be ready to use to add to basement of other crops as manure and fertilizer.
When you also plans mix crops in a large quantity they are also some quick disadvantages to this. One of the disadvantages that when you have excess wind blowing it will Lodge them to one particular side. Making all your efforts to be in a waste if care is not taken. A visit to a farm also makes me to conclude after a very large portion of the farm has been in this type of case and animals start to go for their produce one after the other. The Farmer started harvesting even when the Maize are not fully matured.
We also have the advantage and privilege to monitor the Maize Farm as its supposed to be. These also makes other crops grow faster and that is farmers priority aims and objectives. Within few months of cultivation we have already started harvesting differently on different crops section of the farm.
There are some maze that we show that even physically with their color presenting more of yellowish. It means that some of them are lacking some certain minerals although they can equally survive and still produce but not as expected. That is why you see that you see some Maize even when it is been harvested, very small or scanty. They are lacking one mineral or the other. So it needs to be fixed urgently.
- The harvesting continues slowly because there are some areas where there are still a lot of premature Maize 🌽🌽. This has to be harvested after 2 to 4 weeks more. To have a very good strong production.
We have both white maize and yellow Maize 🌽🌽 on the farm. These are set of two maze specie we have here in Nigeria.
