Una Sorpresa en la Olla / A surprise in the pot

Va caminando un insecto,
por la cocina sin misterio,
es azul con un ojo inmenso,
un animal bastante excéntrico.

Lleva sujetado a su pata,
una olla con tapa,
la arrastra con gracia,
y cuando está cansado a su lado descansa.

An insect is walking,
through the kitchen, nothing out of the ordinary,
it’s blue with a huge eye,
a rather eccentric creature.

Clamped to its leg
is a pot with a lid,
it drags it along gracefully,
and when it gets tired, it rests right next to it.

Cuando se queda dormido,
entro sin hacer ruido,
la olla con cuidado reviso
y descubro que es un recipiente vacío.

Esto, lo puedo solucionar
y me voy a buscar material,
dibujo un huevo frito con habilidad
y con esto la olla vacía no estará.

When he falls asleep,
I slip in quietly,
I carefully check the pot
and find it’s empty.

I can fix this,
so I go look for some supplies,
I skillfully draw a fried egg,
and now the pot won’t be empty anymore.

Me voy caminando de regreso
y el insecto sigue durmiendo,
pongo en la olla, el huevo
y me marcho bien lejos.

Y cuando el animal despierta,
revisa la olla y comida encuentra,
esto es un milagro, ya tiene la cena
y no importa que de papel sea.

I walk back home,
and the insect is still sleeping,
I put the egg in the pot
and walk far away.

And when the animal wakes up,
it checks the pot and finds food,
it’s a miracle—it already has dinner,
and it doesn’t matter that it’s made of paper.
