Un rayito de sol / A ray of sunshine

Esta mañana escribí un cuento,
con buena letra y tinta color negro,
lo dejé sobre la mesa un momento
y cuando volví habían dos seres pequeños.

Eran una parda hormiga
y una orquídea amarilla,
los dos hablaron sobre la hoja escrita
les gustó el cuento que escribía.

This morning I wrote a story,
in neat handwriting with black ink,
I left it on the table for a moment
and when I returned there were two tiny creatures.

They were a brown ant
and a yellow orchid,
both of them talked about the written page
they liked the story I had written.

Invitaron a otro pequeño amigo
blanco y negro, es un bicho,
los tres tomaron una hoja sin permiso
y comenzaron un trabajo entretenido.

Muchas veces la hoja doblaron
hasta que hicieron un barco,
en el la flor y el bicho se montaron
y la hormiga los llevó arrastrados.

They invited another little friend,
black and white, a bug,
the three of them took a leaf without permission
and began an entertaining task.

They folded the leaf many times
until they made a boat,
the flower and the bug got on board,
and the ant carried them along.

Salieron de mi habitación
y se fueron al océano con emoción,
navegaron sin preocupación
y se acercaron al gran sol.

La orquídea hasta el astro saltó
y de él fuerte se agarró,
es que no era en realidad una flor,
sino un rayito de sol.

They left my room
and went to the ocean with excitement,
they sailed without a care
and approached the great sun.

The orchid jumped up to the star
and clung tightly to it,
because it wasn't really a flower,
but a ray of sunshine.

Pensé que les había agradado mi cuento,
pero solo buscaban material bueno,
para construir un barco pequeño
y llevar un rayito de sol olvidado en mi aposento.

I thought they liked my story,
but they were just looking for good material
to build a small boat
and carry a forgotten ray of sunshine into my room.
