Un Perdón que no se Escuchó /An Apology That Went Unheard

Estaba usando un rallador pequeño
para algunos alimentos;
al terminar, me marché un momento
y apareció un copo de avena apuesto
que se interesó por lo que estaba haciendo.

Se acercó al rallador
y sin miedo lo levantó,
ase angustió con lo que vio,
es avena triturada lo que encontró
y muy triste se colocó.

I was using a small grater
on some food;
when I was done, I stepped away for a moment,
and a handsome oat flake appeared
who was curious about what I was doing.

He approached the grater
and fearlessly picked it up,
but was distressed by what he saw,
it was crushed oats he found,
and he became very sad.

Tras el trauma se levantó
y poco a poco la avena triturada alzó,
la guardo en el rallador
y muy rápido se la llevó;
quería salvar lo que quedó.

Pobrecito el copo de avena,
se asustó con la escena,
intenté llegar a ella,
pero se fue de rápida manera
y cuando llegué, no pude verla.

After the trauma, she got up,
and little by little, the crushed oatmeal rose;
she put it in the grater
and quickly took it away;
she wanted to save what was left.

Poor little oat flake,
it was startled by the scene;
I tried to reach it,
but it disappeared in a flash,
and by the time I got there, I couldn’t see it.

Le traía un letrero
para disculparme por lo hechos,
decía "perdón", pero no pudo verlo,
se fue bastante lejos
con la avena triturada que se llevó sin miedo.

Mientras ahí permanecía,
llegó mi perro Matías
al ver la avena molida
se lanzó encima
y se la comió todita.

I brought him a sign
to apologize for what I’d done;
it said “sorry,” but he couldn’t see it,
he’d gone quite far away
with the crushed oats he’d taken without a second thought.

While I was standing there,
my dog Matías came along;
when he saw the crushed oats,
he pounced on them
and ate every last bit.
