Un Insecto Desconfiado / A Suspicious Insect
Un animal de bella coloración
trepa entre hojas de verde color,
es un insecto, creo yo
es pequeño y mira sin rencor.
Le acerco un trozo de galleta
y lo toma con cautela,
lo observa con prudencia
y tras un rato la deja.
A beautifully colored creature
climbs among the green leaves,
it’s an insect, I think,
it’s small and looks at me without malice.
I hold out a piece of cookie to it,
and it takes it cautiously,
it examines it carefully,
and after a while, it lets it go.

Quizás cree que está envenenado
y prefiere no probarlo,
yo me acerco y le hablo,
pero no me hace caso.
Este animal mi idioma no habla
y necesito contarle lo que pasa,
voy por una pizarra
para decirle que la galleta no es mala.
Maybe he thinks it's poisoned
and would rather not try it,
so I go over and talk to him,
but he ignores me.
This animal doesn't speak my language,
and I need to tell him what's going on,
so I go get a chalkboard
to tell him the cookie isn't bad.

Él ve la imagen, la analiza
y por fin comprende que es comida,
se come la galleta con alegría
además es de vainilla.
Se marcha del lugar,
ya comió y feliz se va,
que bonito fue alimentar
un insecto de bella tonalidad.
He sees the image, analyzes it,
and finally realizes it’s food,
he happily eats the cookie,
and it’s vanilla, too.
He leaves the spot;
he’s finished eating and walks away happily,
how lovely it was to feed
an insect with such beautiful colors.
