Un insecto artista / An artist insect

Don Maíz llega en su yegua,
galopando de forma lenta
y en un lugar lleno de piedras,
se baja y explora todo con cautela.

Recoje una roca grisácea
y se sube en la yegua con calma,
con su piedra contento se marcha
quizás hará una artesanía magna.

Don Maíz arrives on his mare,
galloping slowly,
and in a place full of rocks,
he dismounts and explores everything cautiously.

He picks up a grayish rock
and calmly climbs back onto his mare,
happy with his stone, he rides off
perhaps he’ll make a magnificent piece of art.

En la tarde el señor regresa,
ya no va en la yegua,
va pateando una gema,
redonda y de gran belleza.

La deja donde la encontró
y toma otra roca de claro color,
se la lleva sin condición
y desaparece del lugar con determinación.

In the afternoon, the man returns,
no longer riding the mare,
kicking a gem along the way,
round and strikingly beautiful.

He leaves it where he found it
and picks up another pale-colored stone,
takes it without hesitation
and walks away with determination.

Y cuando don Maíz llega a casa,
sobre una mesa deja la roca blanca,
hasta ella llega una apariencia rara,
un insecto de tonalidad azulada.

El animal comienza a pulirla
hasta que la deja redonda y lisa,
es un insecto artista
y don Maíz toma la gema, se la lleva enseguida.

And when Don Maíz gets home,
he sets the white rock on a table,
and a strange creature appears,
a bluish-colored insect.

The insect begins to polish it
until it is round and smooth,
it is an artist of an insect,
and Don Maíz takes the gem and carries it away at once.

Así es como este personaje,
transforma las rocas en gemas brillantes,
es un insecto el que el trabajo hace
y así es como se generan piezas impresionantes.

This is how this creature
turns rocks into sparkling gems,
it is an insect that does the work,
and that is how these stunning pieces are created.
