La prisión de la vicuña / The prison of the vicuña

Una vicuña estaba encarcelada,
era prisionera sin causa,
trataba de mantener la calma
mientras de un lado a otro caminaba.

Entre la reja se asomaba
y una flor desde afuera la animaba,
que situación tan rara,
la libertad le fue arrebatada.

A vicuña was imprisoned,
was a prisoner without cause,
tried to keep calm
while walking back and forth.

Between the fence she was peeking out
and a flower from outside cheered her up,
what a strange situation,
freedom was taken away from her.

Un día aquel animal,
asomó su cabeza de más,
esta cayó fuera del lugar
y quedó al otro lado, en libertad.

La flor la situación aprovechó
y dentro de la jaula se desplazó,
el cuerpo de la vicuña tomó
y le mostró la salida qué no buscó.

One day that animal,
showed its head too much,
fell out of the place
and was on the other side, in freedom.

The flower took advantage of the situation
and inside the cage it moved,
the body of the vicuña took
and showed it the exit that it did not look for.

La vicuña se sintió nostálgica,
no vio lo qué frente a ella estaba,
hubiera podido salir con más agallas
sin dejar su cuerpo tras la jaula.

La flor el cuerpo le devolvió
y esto la lleno de emoción,
hasta la pradera viajaron las dos,
es tiempo de sonreír, la libertad llegó.

The vicuña felt nostalgic,
did not see what was in front of her,
could have left with more guts
without leaving her body behind the cage.

The flower returned her body
and this filled her with emotion,
to the meadow they both traveled,
it is time to smile, freedom came.

Lo que aquella vicuña no entendió,
es que la libertad nadie se la quitó,
ella imaginó su propia prisión,
una puerta cerrada jamás existió.

What that vicuña did not understand,
is that nobody took away her freedom,
she imagined her own prison,
a closed door never existed.
