La pijama del agua aromática / The aromatic water pajamas

Junto a las servilletas estaba
una caja de aromáticas
una de ellas sale angustiada
porque se dañó su pijama.

Mira hacia los costados,
no hay quien pueda ayudar en este lado,
se va caminando
hasta donde están cocinando.

Next to the napkins was
a box of herbs.
One of them comes out distressed
because her pajamas are damaged.

She looks around,
sees no one who can help her,
and walks away
to where they are cooking.

Hasta la estufa llega
y a un fogón se acerca,
quizá el fuego la remienda
pero lo que ocurre no la alienta.

Su pijama se quema
y un lado negro queda,
ella triste regresa
a la caja de aromáticas qué la espera.

She reaches the stove
and approaches the burner,
perhaps the fire will mend it,
but what happens does not encourage her.

Her pajamas burn
and one side is blackened,
she sadly returns
to the box of herbs that awaits her.

Cierra los ojos y se recuesta,
siente que su vida no vale la pena,
luego de un rato se alienta
y que no debe rendirse piensa.

Entra a una caja de servilletas
y sale con una pinta nueva,
arregló su pijama de hábil manera
y hasta sonríe, feliz está ella.

She closes her eyes and lies down,
feeling that her life is not worth living,
but after a while she cheers up
and decides she mustn't give up.

She climbs into a box of napkins
and emerges looking brand new,
she has skillfully arranged her pajamas
and is even smiling, happy as can be.
