La Oruga que Llegó sin Invitación / The Caterpillar Who Came Uninvited
Traje una flor a casa,
que encontré afuera, abandonada,
es amarilla y agraciada,
parece un girasol de grata mirada.
La dejé en la sala
al lado del sofá, por si se cansaba,
me fui a traer agua
y ella se quedó calmada.
I brought a flower home,
one I found outside, abandoned,
it’s yellow and graceful,
it looks like a sunflower with a pleasant appearance.
I left it in the living room
next to the sofa, in case it got tired,
I went to get some water,
and it stayed calm.
Bajo el sofá algo se asomó,
es una oruga de gris color,
a la flor se acercó
y con insistencia la observó.
Se subió por el tallo sin problema
y se acomodó en esta
cuando llegué con el agua fresca,
me sorprendió la oruga de gran manera.
Something peeked out from under the sofa,
it was a gray caterpillar,
it approached the flower
and stared at it intently.
It climbed up the stem without any trouble
and settled on it
just as I arrived with the fresh water,
the caterpillar really surprised me.
Volví a salir de la habitación,
ahora no solo vive en casa una flor
por eso traje un alimento mejor,
un poco de polen para el ser que apareció.
Se lo di con confianza
y la oruga la recibió encantada,
ahora no solo tendré que regar la planta,
sino conseguir alimento para la oruga grisácea.
I went back out of the room,
now there’s more than just a flower living in the house,
so I brought back some better food,
a little pollen for the creature that appeared.
I gave it to her with confidence,
and the caterpillar accepted it happily,
now I’ll not only have to water the plant,
but also find food for the grayish caterpillar.
