El Nuevo Amigo del Perro / The Dog's New Friend

He traído una lechuga fresca
y la he dejado sobre la mesa,
salgo a buscar zanahorias nuevas
y en mi ausencia mi perro se la lleva.

Es un perro hambriento
y toma la lechuga sin miramiento,
la baja de la mesa y se la lleva contento
cómo si fuera el mejor alimento.

I brought home some fresh lettuce
and left it on the table,
I went out to get some fresh carrots,
and while I was gone, my dog took it.

He’s a hungry dog,
and he grabs the lettuce without a second thought,
pulls it off the table, and carries it off happily,
as if it were the best meal ever.

Cuando regreso contenta
y traigo las zanahorias frescas,
busco la lechuga sobre la mesa
y ya no está, se la llevaron en mi ausencia.

Quería preparar una ensalada
pero ya no parece estar en casa,
voy a otro lado a buscarla
y encuentro una escena mágica.

When I come back happy
and bring the fresh carrots,
I look for the lettuce on the table
and it’s gone—someone took it while I was away.

I wanted to make a salad,
but it doesn’t seem to be here anymore,
I go somewhere else to look for it
and come across a magical scene.

La lechuga se la ha llevado
mi perro marrón claro,
junto a ella duerme plácido
cómo si fuera un peluche abullonado.

No tiene amigos el buen perro
y encontró en la lechuga uno nuevo,
no puedo separarlos en este momento
así que no comeré ensalada por un buen tiempo.

The lettuce has been taken by
my light brown dog,
who sleeps peacefully next to it,
as if it were a fluffy stuffed animal.

The good dog has no friends,
and he found a new one in the lettuce,
I can’t separate them right now,
so I won’t be eating salad for quite a while.
