El Gato Dormido / The Sleeping Cat

Un gato se quedó dormido
en el techo de un edificio
se subió trepando solito
quería abrigarse con el sol amarillo.

Se fue el sol
y el gato nunca bajó,
la Luna llegó
y atención al gato no le prestó.

A cat fell asleep
on the roof of a building,
it had climbed up all by itself,
wanting to bask in the yellow sun.

The sun went down,
and the cat never came down,
the moon came out,
but it paid no attention to the cat.

El gato desperto de repente
y se asustó fuertemente,
era de noche, siente que se pierde
y ahulla melancolicamente.

A la Luna esto le da pesar
y se acerca al gato sin titubear
le dice que lo puede ayudar,
pero que debe confiar.

The cat woke up suddenly
and was terribly frightened,
it was nighttime, and feeling lost,
he howled mournfully.

This saddened the Moon,
and she approached the cat without hesitation,
telling him she could help him,
but that he must trust her.

La Luna le entrega al gato
un avión de papel blanco
le dice que vuele un rato
y que este aterrizará despacio.

El gato convencido está,
con la Luna nada podría salir mal
se lanza en el avión con afán
y se va al piso de forma fugaz.

The Moon gives the cat
a white paper airplane
and tells him to fly for a while
and that it will land gently.

The cat is convinced,
with the Moon, nothing could go wrong,
so he eagerly jumps into the airplane
and quickly plummets to the floor.

Se supone que debía volar
confío en el astro sin pensar,
pero se calló, al suelo fue a dar
y la Luna ni le preguntó cómo está.

Hay quienes te quieren ayudar
desde donde ellos están
pero cada uno es un ser original
y lo que funciona para uno, no funciona para los demás.

It was supposed to fly,
I trust the star without a second thought,
but it fell silent, crashed to the ground,
and the Moon didn’t even ask how it was doing.

There are those who want to help you
from where they are,
but each one is a unique being,
and what works for one doesn’t work for others
