El gallo y la yegua / The Rooster and the Mare

Traje un gallo a la casa,
de tonalidad clara,
la puse en una matera baja
para que cacareara en las mañanas.

No me di cuenta
que nos seguía una yegua,
ella al lado del gallo se sienta
y su nariz a su pico acerca.

I brought a rooster home,
a light-colored one,
and put him in a low planter
so he could crow in the mornings.

I didn’t realize
that a mare was following us,
she sat down next to the rooster
and brought her nose close to his beak.

La yegua más se acerca
y el gallo salta sobre ella,
emprenden la huída de forma ligera
hasta que yo llego a la escena.

Le digo a la yegua que se vaya
y me percató de que el gallo falta,
me lanzó a agarrarla,
no puedo dejar que se vayan.

The mare comes closer,
and the rooster jumps on her,
they set off running lightly
until I arrive on the scene.

I tell the mare to go away,
and I realize the rooster is missing,
I rush to catch her,
I can’t let them get away.

Pongo mi gallo en su lugar
y la yegua se sienta al lado a esperar
está escena pena me da
y voy por algo para ayudar.

Traigo un cojín rosado,
se lo entrego a la yegua con agrado,
si va a quedarse al gallo cuidando
que esté cómoda en un ambiente acolchado.

I put my rooster in his place,
and the mare sits down beside him to wait,
this scene makes me sad,
so I go get something to help.

I bring a pink cushion,
and I hand it to the mare with a smile,
so that if she’s going to stay and watch over the rooster,
she’ll be comfortable on something soft.
