El arlequín protector / The protective harlequin

Un arlequín estaba sentado,
en una silla color pardo,
permanecía mirando un jarro,
que tenía una rama de árbol.

La rama no se contonea,
siempre permanece quieta,
el arlequín a la espera se recuesta
y se queda dormido de rápida manera.

A harlequin was sitting
on a brown chair,
staring at a jug
that had a tree branch in it.

The branch does not sway,
it always remains still,
the harlequin waits, leans back,
and quickly falls asleep.

La rama aprovecha el momento
y sale del jarrón sin miedo,
se desliza por el suelo,
va andando sin misterio.

El arlequín despierta en ese momento
y alcanza a tomar la rama con sus dedos,
la abraza, es un ser bello,
una rama con mirar sincero.

The branch seizes the moment
and leaves the vase without fear,
sliding across the floor,
walking without mystery.

The harlequin awakens at that moment
and manages to grab the branch with his fingers,
embracing it. It is a beautiful being,
a branch with a sincere gaze.

Le habla por un rato
y luego la deja en el jarrón cercano,
la rama se duerme de inmediato
y el arlequín se queda a su lado.

Es que la pobre rama tiene pesadillas
y cuando hay una, emprende la huída,
el arlequín su sueño cuida
y lo protege cuando se asusta sin medida.

He talks to her for a while
and then leaves her in the nearby vase,
the branch falls asleep immediately
and the harlequin stays by her side.

The poor branch has nightmares
and when she has one, she runs away,
the harlequin watches over her sleep
and protects her when she is scared out of her wits.
