Borkovačko Lake and Forest Park
For our gardeners, May and June can be quite busy and overcrowded with work. But my wife and I decided to take a break and go on a little trip with our son. We chose Borkovačko Lake, which is right next to the town of Ruma. This lake was created in the 1970s as an accumulation lake on the Borkovac stream. Our path first led us to Borkovački Park, where we left our car and started walking.

The park is quite well laid out, with plenty of paths and signs. And there are several fountains, which is extremely important for refreshment in the summer.

This inconspicuous canal is actually part of the Borkovac stream. My son immediately set out to explore the surroundings.

The grass along the path has been mowed, so the walk is truly pleasant in the beautifully landscaped park.

The name originally belonged to a stream that springs from the southern slopes of Fruška Gora and flows down towards Ruma. This stream is so historically important for the city that, together with the streams Kudoš and Jelenci, it has been on the official coat of arms of Ruma since 1749. Later, when the lake and park were built, it was forested and inherited the name from the stream, and the place itself is full of pine trees.

We climbed a small hill with a beautiful view of the lake.

There are also a lot of trees here.In addition to its original purpose for land irrigation, today it is an important tourist destination for all lovers of nature and fishing.

It is extremely rich in various types of fish, so every year at the beginning of May a fishing competition is organized. There are catfish, perch, carp, babushka, white fish, grass carp and largemouth bass.

The access to the part where the beach "was" is inconvenient for a car. Luckily we were on foot, part of the road, the descent to the beach itself, was destroyed, so if your car is not high or an SUV, I do not recommend going down.

It's ok for fishing and hiking, but not for swimming, so I don't really know.
The water is transparent up to half a meter deep.
A water bloom was observed in the lake, in which blue-green bacteria from the genera Phormidium, Microcystis and Aphanisomenon, as well as the dinoflagellate Ceratium hirundinella participate. ,,Simeunović, J., Svirčev, Z., Krstić, S., Lazić, L. 2005. Occurrence of Cyanobacterial Blooms in Vojvodina Water Ecosystems. Geographica Pannonica 9: 13–19. Link,,
