Amata phegea - Nine-spotted moth - Belopegavi ovnic

I have to admit, I have an assistant in finding insects, beetles, caterpillars... for taking pictures.
That's my son, since he knows that I photograph the garden, insects, nature...
Sometimes it's impossible to approach what he finds to photograph.
And this time he informed me about the ,,Butterfly,, on the Gutter.

This time it was easy to photograph. But as I got closer I realized that this was not a butterfly.
I had to do a little research. This is a Nine-spotted moth (Amata phegea), in Serbian it is called white-spotted ram (belopegavi ovnic).

I decided to investigate this species in more detail
Another case of mimicry in the world of insects. With its appearance and colors, it successfully imitates poisonous and dangerous insects (such as wasps), which repels birds and other predators.

It has dark, bluish-black wings with nine white spots on the front and rear wings, which is why it got its English name.
On the black body, a yellow belt stands out on the back (abdomen), as well as a yellow collar just behind the head.
It belongs to the family Erebidae.

It is widely distributed in southern and central Europe, including the Balkan Peninsula. It can be found all the way to Anatolia and the Caucasus. It most often inhabits sunny slopes, forest edges, meadows with shrubs and open forest areas. It prefers lower areas and warmer habitats.
We live in a village in a plain near the Danube and the forest. So ideal conditions for this moth.

What particularly delighted me about this little one is that it is not a pest. As a gardener, this knowledge means a lot to us.At this time of year, the active months are June and July.
