We started in the Neonatal Area

Se acaba un etapa y comienza una nueva. La emergencia pediatrica probó mi resistencia física y mental al máximo. Fueron días duros, pero ahora me toca iniciar una nueva rotación, y en un mundo completamente nuevo, el área neonatal. Me causa mucha emoción y curiosidad conocer toda esta parte, ya que este grupo etario específicamente es bien particular, en estos pequeñines todo es diferente a los chiquis más grandes, todo un universo de cosas nuevas por aprender.

A stage ends and a new one begins. The pediatric emergency tested my physical and mental resistance to the maximum. Those were hard days, but now I have to start a new rotation, and in a whole new world, the neonatal area. It makes me very excited and curious to know all this part, since this age group specifically is very particular, in these little ones everything is different from the older children, a whole universe of new things to learn.

Me cuesta un poco adaptarme a muchas cosas, porque el ritmo de trabajo es muy distinto al de la emergencia. Además de eso las dosificaciones y las formas de hacer las cosas son muy distintas en el recién nacido. Poco a poco voy saliendo de mi zona de confort, cada día esforzándome y dando lo mejor de mi. Me gusta mucho ver cómo estos pequeñines lo dan todo, luchan por seguir viviendo, por recuperarse, es un área bastante especial pero bastante delicada y llena de responsabilidades.

It's a bit difficult for me to adapt to many things, because the pace of work is very different from that of an emergency. In addition to that, the dosages and the ways of doing things are very different in the newborn. Little by little I am leaving my comfort zone, every day trying my best and giving my best. I really like to see how these little ones give everything, fight to continue living, to recover, it is a very special area but quite delicate and full of responsibilities.

Para alguien tan escéptico cómo yo el área neonatal me ha demostrado que aunque no sepa cómo explicarlo, los milagros existen. Y que el cariño y amor que una madre pueda ofrecerle a su pequeño desde incluso antes del nacimiento influye muchísimo en la evolución y recuperación de estos niños. Es difícil de explicar, pero aunque suene tonto y quizá poco científico a veces unas palabras bonitas y amor y cariño es lo que hace falta para que un enfermo salga adelante, y aunque aplica para todos los pacientes, se nota muchísimo más en este mundo neonatal.

For someone as skeptical as me, the neonatal area has shown me that even if I don't know how to explain it, miracles do exist. And that the affection and love that a mother can offer her little one even before birth greatly influences the evolution and recovery of these children. It is difficult to explain, but although it sounds silly and perhaps unscientific, sometimes some nice words and love and affection is what it takes for a patient to get ahead, and although it applies to all patients, it is much more noticeable in this neonatal world. .
Neonatología es esa área que se dedica al estudio del recién nacido, si bien el área de cuidados mínimos neonatales es un poco menos algida que la emergencia, es difícil readaptarte a una nueva forma de trabajo cuando ya estabas acostumbrado a otra cosa. Pero aquí vamos, adentrándonos en una nueva aventura por, como a mí me gusta llamarle "Pichurrlandia". Les seguiré contando mis experiencias nosocomiales con mis nuevos y muy pequeños hijos.
