Conociendo el Zoologico de Maracay
Parque zoológico Las Delicias
delicias zoo park

Maracay is a city so full of history that sometimes we don't know its residents themselves. The city zoo, which had been closed for many years for remodeling, was recently reopened. Finally this 2023 opened its doors to the public, but beyond the beauty of the place, and the fashion of going to know this incredible place. What most calls my attention is its substantial historical content, since in the past this was not a zoo as such, since in its beginnings it was a hacienda that belonged to General Juan Vicente Gomez (President of Venezuela) where he had a corral with personal exhibition of numerous gifted animals. Subsequently, more native animals of the country were included, such as the capybara, manatee, corocoras and alligators. Another important fact is that General Gómez died at his home on the grounds of the zoo in December 1935. In 1952, it officially opened its doors as a zoo on the initiative of the then president, Marcos Perez Jimenez.
The cool thing about this place is that it is very well located in the Henry Pittier National Park, on the banks of the Maracay River on Las Delicias avenue in the direction of Choroní. The flora that you can see all over the place is simply beautiful, there is a lake and lots and lots of vegetation. I remember that when I was little I always went with my dad, then they closed the place and he could never leave. They recently reopened the place and the truth is that many feelings stirred in me when I went. I have to say that they did an incredible job, it looks quite beautiful, and most of the animals are rescued, the truth is a place that is worth visiting. To spend a different day, walk, de-stress and have a milkshake, share an ice cream, it's good to break the daily routine.

If you are from Maracay, I hope you can visit this park and thus promote tourism in our country, in addition to having a good time and learning more about the fauna and flora of Venezuela, a bit of general culture never hurts. I hope you enjoyed this beautiful publication, for now I say goodbye, see you in the next publication.
