Wednesday Walk: To Los Caobos Park
My Wednesday experience begins with a plan I made with some friends to attend an activity at Los Caobos Park in Caracas, Venezuela.
To give you a little background, it is located in the center of the city between Plaza Venezuela and the cultural zone formed by the Teresa Carreño Theater, the Ateneo de Caracas, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Natural Sciences.
It had been many years since I had been in that park and the invitation encouraged me to remember those moments of my childhood and adolescence when my dad used to take us to walk there.
I went with my daughter and while we were going to the subway station, we saw some beautiful flowers on the island of the avenue, usually only green leaves, but this time they were in bloom. On the subway ride we were talking about how many parks are in our city that we have not visited and we made plans to take a walk every two weeks.
To get there you can take the subway using the Caracas Metro to the Bellas Artes or Plaza Venezuela station, but in the latter the walk is longer.
I chose to arrive at the Bellas Artes Station, because it is closer to the entrance where they were waiting for us. We walked along the avenue and found a unique place called the Paseo los Papagayos, this is in the surroundings of the station. A rescued space inspired by the "papagayos" as they call kites in Venezuela and that calls us to recover the construction and the fun of the flight of this picturesque traditional game.
The place was roofed with colored rhombuses that symbolize the parrot where art, culture and recreation are present announcing the beginning of the cultural area of the zone.
We continued our tour until finally an advertising sign welcomed us. The park has approximately 40 hectares and is one of the oldest natural spaces in the capital (1920). Initially it was called "Parque Sucre" and was located on the grounds of a hacienda called La Industrial.
Its name was changed to the current "Parque Los Caobos" because of the amount of centennial trees of this species that we can enjoy throughout the walk and trails. A pleasant and quiet environment and a little lonely, on weekends is when you can see more city dwellers exercising, visiting museums or just enjoying nature with family or friends.
We passed by the flags and the cicadas could be heard singing so impressively that in order to speak we had to raise our voices.
We continued our tour observing the green tonality of the leaves of the trees and the dense vegetation that provided a great amount of shade and only let us see a little piece of sky.
In the distance you could see the emblematic “Fuente Venezuela” located in the middle of the park, a work of art that was brought from the Plaza Venezuela sector in the 1960s where it was previously located.
This radial fountain has in the center of the water mirror, five giant sculptures located on pedestals that symbolize the geographical regions of Venezuela: El Avila, Los Andes, Los Llanos, El Orinoco and El Caribe.
They have three circular rings that form the pond and a central flower, also as part of the design there are a series of water jets with different levels giving optical movement to the work.
I could not stop contemplating the landscape that connected me with the four elements, the water fountain, the trees, the earth, the subtle breeze caressed my face while I looked at the sky and the fire of my being that was already ready to continue enjoying a wonderful activity with my friends.
Biodanza in the park was a meeting of looks, smiles, movement, joy, music and many hearts given to the experience of the celebration. We had a great time because it was also a very nice reunion.
At the end we sat near the fountain to rest and watch the water fall, each one shared their anecdotes lived in the place. We said goodbye with the desire to have another meeting soon.
We returned home where my mother was waiting for us with a succulent bowl of soup.
Thank you for making it this far and taking the time to read my post, until the next installment
