July 4th is a day of celebration in Boa Vista in Cape Verde. More precisely, the San Isabel whose religious origin I will let you seek! As far as I’m concerned, it’s a photographic celebration day with horse races, swimming competitions, surfing, and regattas of traditional sailing boats. These are wooden and rigged fishing boats with a lateen sail. This was how the fishermen took to the sea and went far out to sea before the arrival of the multinational Yamaha!!! But some have retained the know-how, and even if now the sails are rigged for tourism, it remains a real pleasure to see them evolve in the bay. Today, no tourists on board. The day is important and honor prevails over the turnover! Teams of two, a departure on the village beach, a buoy to turn around the old steam wreck at the bottom of the bay, some beers and liters of grog in the first aid kit, so you need 5 or 6 first aid kits (!), and wind. Except that today "Vento ca tem"! The only windless day of the year arrives on the day of the regatta. No luck, but this will not prevent the competitors from chasing the scoffers and racing with great determination. For my part, here are the photographs that I released that day. In selective colors, because I find them well suited to these incredible boats.
