PLONGEUR SOLITAIRE - LE LIVRE - Partie 7 : MATTY
...I go back home to die...” Matti, inoubliable Matti.
A suivre...
... I go back home to die...” Matti, unforgettable Matti. We knock on the hull, and here comes to me a young man of 75 years old at least, coming to beg my lights to restart his navigation software. Matti left Finland six years earlier, that is to say at the dawn of his seventy springs, and alone... Even though he has a somewhat wrinkled skin and small hesitations when it comes to playing balancing between the annex and the sailboat’s deck, the fact remains that when Matti looks at a sea chart, it’s again the eyes of a young man that shine in front of this piece of paper filled with possibilities, choices to make, and projects. Together, we are preparing our respective routes for the continuation of our travels. In his "Snoopy" of 10.5m steel, Matti gives me some space on the table, takes out a small bottle and serves it to me with a little smirk, and displays in front of me about twenty nautical charts. He will join Darwin by taking the Torres Strait, then, will cross for Indonesia and Thailand where I hope to find him in spring. For my part, each day sees a new itinerary. Finally the route to Northern Melanesia, through the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea will be chosen. After a few drinks, he doesn’t hesitate to tell me that he is becoming old and goes home to die there. The road is still long and I wish you to fulfill your dream my friend, but when you are there, don’t forget to take all your time to make yourself... Long life to you...
