I spent several days in the North of Portugal with a program to take steps in the lower mountains. The region between Geres and the Spanish border is superb. We quickly find ourselves alone on the trails and the scenery between rivers, forests and granite rocks is worth a visit. The day’s hike led me to a lake, rather a water reservoir, on the heights of Peneda. As an anti-religious convert, I had no idea that there was a shrine, the one of Our Lady of Peneda, located in the village. It is therefore not as a pilgrim, but as a photographer, that I climbed all the steps surrounded by 20 chappelles, and leading me to a superb church. The only information I can give you is that the complex began to be erected in the 17th century and that the sanctuary is one of those that attracts the most pilgrims to Portugal. For the rest... it’s very pretty! |
