🇫🇷 Les baleines à bosse sont connues pour nous proposer des sauts, des gestes en surface que nous prenons comme du spectacle et qui font converger nos objectifs photos. Mais qu'en est-il vraiment ? Pourquoi ces comportements de surface ? Voici quelques photographies que j'ai pu prendre lors de leurs mouvements en surface et les explications qu'on leur attribut.
🇬🇧 Humpback whales are known for offering us jumps, gestures on the surface that we take as spectacle and which converge our photo objectives. But what is it really about? Why these surface behaviors? Here are some photographs that I was able to take during their movements on the surface and the explanations attributed to them.

🇫🇷 Le saut "retourné" est le saut emblématique de la baleine à bosse. Le plus impressionnant. La baleine prend son élan et parvient à soulever presque entièrement hors de l'eau son corps de 25-30 tonnes et 12-15 mètres de long. La chute est violente. Une véritable explosion à la surface de l'eau soulevant une gerbe blanche visible à plusieurs kilomètres à la ronde. Cela fait partie des signaux que nous utilisons pour détecter la présence d'une baleine à longue distance. Un geste surréaliste. Il peut d'interpréter comme un geste servant au déparasitage, mais aussi comme un geste de communication. Une communication à la séduction et à la localisation. Un preuve de force qui convaincra peut-être une femelle.

🇫🇷 Le saut ventre en avant est une alternative au saut retourné. La baleine s'élance et jette son corps ventre vers l'avant et retombe à plat ventre. Son interprétation peut être équivalente celle correspondant au saut retourné.

🇫🇷 Les battements de caudale arrière sont très spectaculaire. Le tourisme est en général content et impressionné d'observer une telle démonstration de force. La baleine garde sa tete sous l'eau et soulève sa caudale hors de l'eau pour la faire frapper à la surface. Ca fait beau sur les photos, certes. Mais cette technique est utilisée pour faire fuir les prédateurs, orques en général. Mais pourquoi les baleines font-elles cela lorsqu'il n'y pas d'orques à l'horizon...? Et bien peut-être parce qu'elles prennent des bateaux de whales watching trop pressant comme pour des prédateurs. Un geste pour nous dire, "cassez vous vous me dérangez...". Un joli paradoxe entre "l'eco-tourisme" et la Nature...

🇫🇷 Les battements de pectorales consiste à une nage sur le dos et à frapper la surface de l'eau avec ses "bras", ses nageoires pectorales. Ce comportement peut davantage être lié à un geste de communication ou à l'éducation des jeunes. Nous l'avons souvent observé avec de couples mère/baleineau où le jeune réalise ce geste autour de la mère.

🇫🇷 La plongée en "canard" se caractérise par une sonde tête première en faisant passer l'entièreté de son corps à la verticale et en laissant apparaitre sa caudale en entier. Un geste très gracieux qui nous permet de photographier le "dessin" blanchâtre de sa caudale unique à chaque baleine. Un moyen pour nous de les identifier. C'est leur empreinte digitale !

🇫🇷 Le souffle es surface est le comportement emblématique de la présence d'une baleine. Tout le monde sait ce geste. La baleine remonte en surface après son apnée et fait comme nous avec notre tuba, elle expire avant de ré-inspirer. Ce souffle peut atteindre 3-' mètres de hauteur et accessoirement nous permet de localiser les baleines.
