It's not just you, the latest version doesn't count steps accurately. Well, even before, the step count was off, usually significantly more than actual count, sometimes by up to 50%. But now, it's consistently at least 30% less than actual count (verified with several other apps, and my watch). I noticed it's especially bad if you walk with your phone in your hand, surfing the web for instance. In that case, it barely counts any steps, even if you walk or even run (running while surfing the web on the phone is bad, but I was just testing!).
