Like a ten ton hammer! - My Actifit Report Card: June 3 2026

Hey Actifitters,
Yesterday started quite normally, except we went for our short daily walk earlier than usual. That was a surprise for Le Chat.

But we didn't have much time, that was an even shorter loop than the past few days. Kaia was like "What do you mean 'We have to go'?"...

Le Chat barely had time to wake up and join us before we were already back.

The highlight of the day was a concert at the Fillmore Theatre in Detroit: Machine Head and Killswitch Engage. Two other bands were opening for them, but we skipped them and arrived just a song inside Machine Head set. I hadn't seen them in a very long time and it was nice to see they still have the same energy, even though Rob Flynn is pushing 60 next year. Like many people I discovered them in the mid to late 90s. And even though their style evolve a lot along the years, it is still very unique and you can always recognize them at the very first notes. And of course, so heavy!!

We started on the side, and found a better spot. Wasn't in a moshing mood, but it looked pretty cool in the pit.

Their set felt a little short but it's probably because they have so many classics.

Then Killswitch Engage showed up to close the night.

Gotta say, even though I saw them live several times, I hadn't listened to them in a very long time and I only really know their most famous songs. But their set was really good too, heavier than I expected and with such energy too!

We stayed a little further this time, closer to the bar! But I was surprised how well my phone could snap photos.

Well, it was a good day. It's been a while since I went to a real metal show, it was overdue. We used to go very often, we have to get back into it! With outdoor concert season started soon, maybe it's a great opportunity for it.
As always, thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.

I didn't know either band. Only the album "Machine Head" by Deep Purple. Especially Killswitch Engage is calling my attention. At first listen, they remind me of From Autumn to Ashes, which I still enjoy listening to very much, even after over 20 years 🙃
!hbit
Yeah, clearly Deep Purple ain't the same thing !lolz
I remember vaguely From Autumn to Ashes, they were getting famous (in the metal genre at least) around the same time as Killswitch Engage in the early 2000s. Similar mix of clean and screamed voices I think, but that's all I can remember. I will check them out again, make sure they appear in my shuffles.
The majority of my favorite bands are from the 90s and 00s, so I fully understand
Enjoy your week end, !ALIVE
