Hope

On Wednesday, January 14, the traditional and massive procession of the sacred image of the Divine Shepherdess (Divina Pastora) took place through the streets and avenues of Barquisimeto, marking the 168th visit to the city since the first one took place in 1856.

This devotion to the Virgin Mary originated in Seville in the early 18th century, and as described in numerous previous posts, it is the third largest Marian event in the world, after the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico and Fatima in Portugal.

On this occasion, for health reasons, I was unable to make the strenuous 7.5-kilometer journey to the city's cathedral, as in previous years, so I welcomed the image as it passed by an avenue near my home, where thousands of people waited under a cloudy sky, while various musical groups entertained the parishioners with religious songs full of hope and joy.

As I have described in previous posts, I process the original photographs using the editing tools offered in their free versions by the applications Picsart and Snapseed.

El pasado miércoles 14 de Enero, se realizó la tradicional y multitudinaria procesión de la Sagrada imagen de la Divina Pastora por las calles y avenidas de Barquisimeto, significando la visita número 168 a la ciudad, desde que la primera tuviese lugar en el año 1856.

Esta advocación de la Virgen María, tuvo su origen en Sevilla a principios del Siglo 18, y tal como lo descrito en numerosos posts anteriores, es el tercer evento mariano mas grande del mundo, luego de la Virgen de la Guadalupe en México y Fátima en Portugal.

En esta oportunidad, por razones de salud, no pude hacer el extenuante recorrido de mas de 7,5 kilómetros hasta la Catedral de la ciudad, como en años anteriores, por lo que recibí a la imagen durante su paso por una avenida cercana a mi hogar, donde millares de personas aguardaban bajo un cielo nublado, mientras diversas agrupaciones musicales amenizaban a los feligreses con cánticos religiosos plenos de esperanza y alegría.

Como he descrito en posts anteriores, las fotografías originales las proceso haciendo uso de las herramientas de edición que ofrecen en sus versiones gratuitas las aplicaciones Picsart y Snapseed.
