During the Christmas season, Venezuelan tables usually serve a traditional dish known as “hallaca”, which is basically a corn flour cake filled with a vegetable-based stew and various proteins such as beef, pork or chicken, and which is wrapped in banana leaves to be cooked in boiling water.
Its preparation is quite complex and extensive, so it is commonly made with the family and days or weeks in advance, since the hallacas can be kept in the fridge or refrigerator, and are heated at the time of being served, particularly on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve dinners, although they can be eaten at any time of the month since dozens are usually prepared.
These photos, from my personal archive, correspond to the day my sister prepared her hallacas last year, for which she hired the services of two young cooks to help us during the long and tiring day.
As I have described in previous posts, I process the original photographs using the editing tools offered in their free versions by the applications Picsart and Snapseed.

Durante la temporada navideña, en las mesas venezolanas se acostumbra a servir un platillo tradicional conocido como "hallaca", el cual es básicamente un pastel de harina de maíz relleno con un guiso a base de vegetales y diversas proteínas tales como carne de res, cerdo o gallina, y el cual se envuelve en hojas de plátano para ser cocinado en agua hirviendo.
Su elaboración es bastante compleja y extensa, por lo que comúnmente se hace en familia y con días o semanas de anticipación, ya que las hallacas pueden conservarse en la nevera o en el refrigerador, y se calientan al momento de ser servidas, particularmente en las cenas de Nochebuena y de Año Nuevo, aunque pueden consumirse en cualquier momento del mes ya que usualmente se preparan docenas.
Estas fotos pertenecientes a mi archivo personal, corresponden al día en que mi hermana preparó sus hallacas el año pasado, para lo cual contrató los servicios de dos jóvenes cocineras para que nos ayudasen durante la larga y agotadora jornada.
Como he descrito en posts anteriores, las fotografías originales las proceso haciendo uso de las herramientas de edición que ofrecen en sus versiones gratuitas las aplicaciones Picsart y Snapseed.
