Today, the last day of November, marked the First Sunday of Advent, a period leading up to Christmas that begins four weeks earlier and, according to the doctrines of different Christian churches, represents a time of prayer, reflection, repentance, forgiveness, and also joy and happiness.

As has been the custom for a long time, a circular wreath is made, preferably with pine branches, on which four candles or tapers are placed and lit one by one for each Sunday of Advent, representing faith, hope, charity, and joy.

This morning at the church I usually attend, the priest lit the first candle after reading a prayer. The candle is usually purple, symbolizing the faith that should reign in each of us. He also lit a wreath presented to him by a family, probably neighbors or parishioners, who did not want to miss this opportunity to symbolize the beginning of the Christmas season.

Hoy, último día del mes de Noviembre, se celebró el Primer Domingo de Adviento, un período de tiempo previo a la Navidad y que se inicia cuatro semanas antes, y en el que de acuerdo a las doctrinas de las diferentes iglesias cristianas, representa un tiempo de oración, reflexión, arrepentimiento, perdón, y también de gozo y alegría.

Como ha sido costumbre desde hace mucho tiempo, se elabora una corona circular con ramas de pino preferiblemente, donde se colocan cuatro velas o velones que se encienden una por una por cada Domingo del tiempo de Adviento, y las cuales representan la fe, la esperanza, la caridad y la alegría.

Esta mañana en la iglesia a la cual suelo acudir, el sacerdote encendió la primera vela luego de leer una plegaria, la cual usualmente es de color morado y que simboliza la fe que debe reinar en cada uno de nosotros. Además, también encendió una corona que le presentó una familia, seguramente vecinos o feligreses de la parroquia, y que no quisieron perder esta oportunidad, que simboliza el inicio de la temporada navideña.

After Mass ended shortly before noon, I got up from my seat and walked over to the Advent wreath. However, a large crowd of people did the same to take photos with their families or selfies posing next to the wreath, so I had to wait a few minutes for my chance.

As I have described in previous posts, I process the original photographs using the editing tools offered in their free versions by the applications Picsart and Snapseed.

Luego de que finalizara la misa poco antes del mediodía, me levanté de mi asiento y me dirigí hasta la corona de Adviento, sin embargo, una gran multitud de personas también hicieron lo mismo para tomarse algunas fotos con sus respectivos grupos familiares o selfies, posando junto a la corona, por lo que debí esperar algunos minutos mientras se me presentaba la oportunidad.

Como he descrito en posts anteriores, las fotografías originales las proceso haciendo uso de las herramientas de edición que ofrecen en sus versiones gratuitas las aplicaciones Picsart y Snapseed.
