We are now just a week away from December, and with that, we are at the gateway to Christmas, the most important time of the year and the most eagerly awaited by many, especially children, who at dawn on the 25th will look beside their beds, at the foot of the Christmas tree, or in any corner of their homes for the gifts they believe they deserve for their good behavior throughout the year.

Christmas is a season of mixed feelings. On the one hand, there is the joy, excitement, and enjoyment of the holidays and family reunions. On the other hand, there is the melancholy and nostalgia of those who long for times past, the grief for those who will not be present at Christmas dinner, either because they have left this world or because they are in distant lands seeking new opportunities. Finally, there is reproach and introspection for the goals and projects that have not materialized in the year that is about to end.

As has always been the case, homes, streets, and public spaces are decorated with motifs typical of this time of year, among which the traditional trees adorned with colorful tinsel, Santa Claus with his sleigh, and nativity scenes, a tradition from Mediterranean Europe that is also present in Latin America and other countries, although to a lesser extent each year, tend to stand out.

Ya estamos apenas a una semana de Diciembre, y con esto, ya estamos a las puertas de entrada de la Navidad, la época más importante del año y la más esoerada por muchos, principalmente los niños, quienes al amanecer del día 25, buscaran a un lado de sus camas, al pié del Arbol de Navidad o en cualquier rincón de sus casas, los regalos que creen merecer por su buen comportamiento durante todo el año.

La Navidad es una temporada de sentimientos encontrados, por una parte la alegría, el goce y el disfrute de las fiestas y el reencuentro familiar, por otra parte, la melancolía y la nostalgia de quienes añoran tiempos pasados, el duelo por quienes no estarán presentes en la cena navideña, bien sea porque partieron de este mundo, porque se encuentran en tierras lejanas buscando nuevas oportunidades, y por último, el reproche y la introspección por las metas y proyectos no materializados en el año que está por culminar.

Como siempre ha sido usual, los hogares, las calles y espacios públicos se engalanan con motivos propios de esta fecha, entre los que suelen destacar los tradicionales árboles adornados con bambalinas de colores, los Santa Claus con sus respectivos trineos y los pesebres, una tradición de la Europa mediterránea que también está presente en América Latina y otros países, aunque cada año en menor medida.

Yesterday, I was walking around a shopping mall near my house, admiring the Christmas decorations, which, although lacking the elegance or exuberance of previous years, are always a good reason to cheer the heart, waiting for the celebrations, lavish or humble, that always take place during these festivities.

At one end of the mall was a nativity scene about three meters high, where the figures of Joseph and Mary wait next to an empty crib for the birth of Jesus on the night of the 24th. In another aisle, I discovered Santa sitting on a bench, waiting for those who wished to sit next to him, and at the opposite end of the mall, his sleigh was parked next to large gifts. Given the influx of children whose parents were taking pictures of them, I had to wait a while until it was free.

Finally, next to the food court, there was a Christmas tree, which was also crowded with children and families taking pictures around it.

As I have described in previous posts, I process the original photographs using the editing tools offered in their free versions by the applications Picsart and Snapseed.

Ayer estuve recorriendo un centro comercial cercano a mi casa, admirando la decoración navideña, que aunque carece de la elegancia o exuberancia de años anteriores, siempre es una buena razón para alegrar el corazón, esperando las celebraciones, fastuosas o humildes, que siempre tienen lugar en estas festividades.

En un extremo del mall, se encontraba un pesebre de unos tres metros de altura, donde las figuras de José y María aguardan junto a una cuna vacía, el nacimiento de Jesús el venidero 24 en horas de la noche. En otro pasillo, descubrí un Santa sentado en un banco, esperando por quienes deseen sentarse a su lado, y en el extremo opuesto del centro comercial, estaba su trineo junto a grandes regalis, y dada la afluencia de niños a quienes sus padres les tomaban fotos, tuve que esperar un rato hasta que se estuviese libre.

Finalmente, a un costado de la Feria de Comida, estaba un Arbol de Navidad, que también se encontraba congestionado por la presencia de niños y grupos familiares retratándose en sus inmediaciones.

Como he descrito en posts anteriores, las fotografías originales las proceso haciendo uso de las herramientas de edición que ofrecen en sus versiones gratuitas las aplicaciones Picsart y Snapseed.
