Los orígenes de la celebración del Carnaval o Carnavales se remontan a más de 5.000 añis atrás cuando los sumerios y egipcios realizaban una gran fiesta para alejar a los malos espíritus durante los tiempos de cosecha, sin embargo, sería el Imperio Romano los ofrecerían al término del período invernal, banquetes y bailes con máscaras y disfraces, para celebrar la abundancia de la tierra.

Posteriormente durante la Edad Media y con la expansión del cristianismo por toda Europa, se tomaron y adaptaron estas tradiciones como un preparativo para la Cuaresma, un periodo de abstinencia y ayuno que culmina con el Domingo de Resurrección, día en el que se celebra la resurrección de Jesús, siendo la fecha más importante del cristianismo.

En América Latina y en algunas ciudades o poblaciones de España e Italia, se acostumbra a celebrar estas fechas con desfiles de carrozas y comparsas que bailan al ritmo de la música por las calles, entusiasmando y deleitando a los numerosos asistentes que acuden a estas festividades.

En mi caso en particular, los desfiles organizados por las autoridades municipales tuvieron lugar en el oeste y centro de Barquisimeto, al lado opuesto de la ciudad, por lo que no asistí y decidí aprovechar estos días de asueto, porque tampoco viajé a las playas como muchas personas acostumbran, para descansar y recorrer algunos lugares cercanos a mi hogar, como fue el Parque del Este.

El Parque del Este José María Ochoa Pile, como su nombre lo indica, está ubicado al este de la ciudad de Barquisimeto, y cuenta con numerosos atractivos naturales para los visitantes. Recientemente, se añadió una nueva atracción: el alquiler de botes de remo para recorrer la laguna o estanque artificial que fue puesta en funcionamiento a principios del año pasado, luego de haber sido reparados los problemas de filtración que presentaba.

Suelo acudir los fines de semana, y es un extraordinario escenario para la toma de fotografías, actividad que disfruto mucho.

The origins of the celebration of Carnival or Carnivals date back to more than 5,000 years ago when the Sumerians and Egyptians held a great feast to ward off evil spirits during harvest time, however, the Roman Empire would offer them at the end of the winter period, banquets and dances with masks and costumes, to celebrate the abundance of the land.

Later during the Middle Ages and with the expansion of Christianity throughout Europe, these traditions were taken and adapted as a preparation for Lent, a period of abstinence and fasting that culminates with Easter Sunday, the day on which the resurrection of Jesus is celebrated, being the most important date of Christianity.

In Latin America and in some cities or towns in Spain and Italy, it is customary to celebrate these dates with parades of floats and troupes that dance to the rhythm of music through the streets, exciting and delighting the many attendees who come to these festivities.

In my particular case, the parades organized by the municipal authorities took place in the west and center of Barquisimeto, on the opposite side of the city, so I did not attend and decided to take advantage of these days off, because I did not travel to the beaches as many people usually do, to rest and visit some places near my home, such as the East Park (Parque del Este).

The "José María Ochoa Pile" East Park, as its name suggests, is located east of the city of Barquisimeto, and has numerous natural attractions for visitors. Recently, a new attraction was added: the rental of rowing boats to tour the artificial lagoon or pond that was put into operation early last year, after having been repaired the filtration problems it presented.

I usually go there on weekends, and it is an extraordinary scenery for taking photographs, an activity I enjoy very much.
