On this Monday morning, as I walked down one of the streets of my old hometown I could not help but be assaulted by a wonderful, everyday occurrence. On the sidewalk was cast the colored shadow of what was once a stained glass window. Although it was not alien to me, the occasion, the mood, my sensibility, this time found a different reading of the phenomenon.

I have always found the universe of optical physics and the luminous projection of bodies with different qualities suggestive. In this case, the shadow cast by the glass is perfectly conjugated within a larger shadow, that of the structure. Immediately my mind took associative paths that led me to the work of the greatest exponent of neoplasticism: Piet Mondrian.

It is a shadow written in the shadow, as a detail of lines and geometric signatures that obeyed the pictorial style of the master but with the particularity of green, a color that Mondrian never used in his compositions, characterized by the use of primary colors. It also expresses the same two-dimensional sensation that avoids creating the illusion of depth.

These photographs, entitled A house for Mondrian, are conceptually sustained by the treatment of the image captured under the imprint of pure abstraction that is identified after the contemplative act of direct experience; the use of necessary elements of form and color; the visual simplicity in the set of shadows that plays with vertical and horizontal directions, and the use of primary colors, in this case the primaries of light, together with the opaque black of the resulting solid shadow.

Like a child's drawing, full of simplicity but no less profound, this shadow evokes a house and a window. In this opportunity, I aspire to capture the expression of my pure reality. I focus on the suggestion of a solid shadow silhouette that serves as a setting for a focal point: the window of green and red, translucent shadows. A reality that remains day after day as long as that old wall refuses to collapse and continues to propose bridges in two imaginary dimensions.

En la mañana de este lunes, mientras caminaba por una de las calles de mi viejo pueblo no pude evitar ser asaltada por un suceso maravilloso y cotidiano. En la acera se proyectaba la sombra coloreada de lo que antes fuera un vitral. Aunque no me era ajena, la ocasión , el ánimo, mi sensibilidad, esta vez encontraron una lectura diferente del fenómeno.

Siempre he encontrado sugerente el universo de la física óptica y la proyección luminosa de los cuerpos con diferentes cualidades. En este caso, la sombra proyectada por el vidrio se conjuga perfectamente dentro de una sombra mayor, la de la estructura. Inmediatamente mi pensamiento tomó caminos asociativos que me llevaron hasta la obra del mayor exponente del neoplasticismo: Piet Mondrian.

Se trata de una sombra escrita en la sombra, como un detalle de líneas y formas geométricas que obedecieran al estilo pictórico del maestro pero con la particularidad del verde, color que Mondrian nunca utilizó en sus composiciones, caracterizadas por el empleo de colores primarios. Además expresa esa misma sensación bidimensional que evita crear la ilusión de
profundidad.

Estas fotografías, que llevan el título de Una casa para Mondrian, se sustentan conceptualmente en el tratamiento de la imagen captada bajo la impronta de la abstracción pura que se identifica luego del acto contemplativo en la experiencia directa; el empleo de elementos necesarios de forma y color; la simplicidad visual en el conjunto de sombras que juega con direcciones verticales y horizontales, y el uso de colores primarios, en este caso los primarios de la luz, junto
al negro opaco de la sombra sólida resultante.

Como un dibujo infantil, lleno de simplicidad pero no menos profundo, esta sombra evoca una casa y una ventana. En está oportunidad, aspiro a a captar la expresión de mi realidad pura. Me enfoco en la sugerencia de una silueta de sombra sólida que sirve de ambientación a un punto focal: la ventana de sombras verdes y rojas, translúcidas. Una realidad que permanece día tras día en tanto esa vieja pared se niegue a desplomarse y siga proponiendo puentes en dos dimensiones imaginarias.
