Exterior architectural features of buildings seen on Wakwella Road, Galle
Hi my fellow ARCHITECTURE+DESIGN lovers,
How how you Hivers? I really believe that you are spending valuable week with your hard work. Galle is a very busy city as it is the capital of the Southern Province. It is now known to everyone that Galle was a city built according to that architecture during the Dutch colonial period, due to the content I presented earlier. The buildings built according to the Dutch colonies can be seen mostly in the Fort and Kaluwella areas. Wakwella Street in Galle can also be called an extremely busy commercial zone. There are very few old buildings here, and it can be seen that many new shops have been built following modern construction concepts. These shops have been built using various architectural shapes and techniques with sales as the center. What I hope to bring to you in today's content is information on the architectural exploration of Wakwella Street in Galle.
ICBT Campus, a prominent place among private educational institutions in Sri Lanka, was built with four floors. Being an educational institution, the white glass has thick curtains inside so that the students do not focus on the road. The red color mixed with white adds a good look to the front shape. ICBT Campus offers high-level courses and this is clearly displayed on a name board in front. The badge of ICBT Campus is also attractively displayed above. A communication service provider called Dialog is also established near Wakwella Road. The logo of that institution is displayed above.
Galle Super Center is a place where you can buy all the necessary items for your home on Wakwella Road in Galle. The fact that the goods inside are well-packed and visible to the people passing by is a very good marketing strategy, which is covered with transparent glass from the outside. Although it is a single-storey building, it has a wide space, so there are facilities to store a considerable amount of goods. The parking area, which is paved with marble stones, is not very large. But their name display board is well highlighted.
Even though it is not related to architecture, steps should be taken to maintain the cleanliness of a city. But some tuition teachers here stick their cutouts on the corners of the road to increase their promotion. If they fall off, environmental pollution can occur on the road. Although there was not much space on this road when I was a child going to school, today a lot of space has been covered by these shops. However, I feel more happy when I see the progress that has been made today.
While moving forward, I came across two attractive buildings with unique architectural features. I stopped there for a while and spent time observing the construction concepts contained therein. It must be said that the color combinations of the closed building are excellent. The walls here were painted in a different way with black, gray, brown and light yellow. After that, I came across the Galle branch of Sarasavi Bookstore, one of the most famous bookstores in Sri Lanka. The most appropriate color combination for bookstores was white and blue.
There are many places selling items that are important for the daily needs of man on the Galle-Wakwella road, so it is easy for people to fulfill their needs by traveling along this road. The front appearance of each of these shops has helped to attract customers. The children's shop where you can buy things for small children can be seen from the road, how the goods are packed in a very interesting way. Nearby are several small buildings created in different shapes.
Two private hospitals that are dedicated to the physical health of humans caught my attention. The private hospital called Asiri Hospital has undergone major renovations over the past year. In fact, the earlier Hemas Hospital did not have an attractive appearance. But the current administration has given it a new lease of life by planting ornamental plants in front and changing the interior shapes and architectural features. The Cooperative Private Hospital, located in a building belonging to the Dutch colonial era, has also been renovated with modern architectural features and new construction arrangements. The Cooperative Private Hospital, which was limited to one side at that time, has now spread out on both sides of the road.
People's Bank, a leading state-owned bank in Sri Lanka, and Seylan Bank, a private bank, are also located on this road. The Galle National Library is also located in a part of the People's Bank building. This building has also been modified by adding modern architectural features. It was learned that various departments belonging to the bank are located on the upper floors. The Seylan Bank building, which is built with arch-shaped voids, is actually more attractive than the People's Bank building because it includes old architectural features.
The Southern Provincial Branch building of the Department of Registration of Persons is said to have been built during the Dutch colonial period. However, it has been given a new look with new features added inside and outside and new paint applied to the walls. The gates and walls were built as if they were built for the protection of a Dutch fort. The century finance building is also built in an old style and has not been painted to add to the old values.
The building where Galle Motor Stores is located is also built in the shape of a ship's deck. It is not difficult to understand that it is one of the most beautiful construction methods I have ever seen. At the end, I also saw a very beautifully crafted Buddha statue.
